I used to have an AWD eclipse, and let my g/f(at the time) drive that and going from 2nd up to 3rd she apparently forgot to go over a bit and um...yea went right up into first...as soon as I heard grinding and the motor rev up when she let the clutch out I screamed PUSH THE CLUTCH IN!!
I literally gasped reading this. Women should learn on junkers, not the other "she" in your life.

My younger sister could not wait to get a manual. After a stint with a Toyota Corolla in college, she went to a 5MT DSM Eclipse Spyder. She now rows the 6 gears of a BMW 330Ci Convertible. Btw - My wife started with an MT and rocks with it as well. Sadly, both women are better at it than me.

My wife drove a S10 stick for 11 years until we got her the AT Pathfinder.

She has never asked or driven my Z and has no desire because she is to scared she'll hurt it and I might have a heart attack.

Now I know she is more important than my cars but at the same time I am glad she is concerned about my health. I'd let her drive them if she wants but secretly I hope she never asks.

15 minutes? Now that girl is a trooper! I bet she watched the clock the whole time though.

Way to dig up an ancient thread. Back on topic though, I have pretty successfully taught my gf how to drive stick on my Tiburon, but I pretty much had to beg her to try it. She gets frustrated very easily if she doesn't get something right away, so you can imagine what it was like having to teach her how to get going without stalling.

I don't think my wife knows how to drive an automatic. We've never owned anything but a stick. But my wife also knows how to heel-toe, drift, and spins donuts in empty parking lots with highschool boys watching in awe, not to mention her motorcycle license. And everyone wonders why i got married so young (22 by the way). I don't know that I would every be with someone that didn't race and love cars let alone didn't know how to drive a stick.

Tried to get my daughter to learn stick on my Pathfinder, but she wasn't much interested. Now 2 years later after getting the Z, she all of a sudden has a new interest in learning??? She did fine after two 15 min. lessons, but is afraid to drive in town with it. Fine with me.

Z is a tough car to learn on. First stick I drove was my dad's '99 Firebird Formula. It was hard enough to get a clean start in 1st without laying down some rubber first, lol.

I'm suprised she stalled in 2nd and not first. The hardest part about learning stick is the launch. Usually once your moving its easy, shouldn't have to rev-match to get up to 2nd.

hahaha same here. i did let her try once (on the streets )(at night though) at first she stalled it a few times lol. then she actually made it around the block okay. she came to a red light and just pushed the brake like it was auto tranny. BOOM! stall. lol she was like "why did it turn off?" i sat there just lookin at her thinkinh to myself like "you just drove the car around the block and was using the clutch to shift, and now you ask why it stalled?" so i told her why it stalled. she started it up again amazingly took off better than me sometime . made it back to her house. then she goes like "that was fun can i go around again?" so i was like what the hell why not she made it this far. but this time it was stall after stall after so i was like thats it enough for tonight. (but i could get enough of that smile on her face from the joy of diving it.) ive resently asked her if she wants to go at it agian but she said its coo so i was like suit yourself. but ya, thats my story.

It's interesting that stick is regarded as such a high skill operation here in the U.S.

In the UK everyone drives stick.

I hate automatics. I've only owned/own one and it was my grandpa's, so I'm keeping it for that.
