CANADA - Let's take action and get the Bose fix
I think we should all complain to Nissan Canada to make the Bose fix available to the Canadian dealers as soon as possible.
Nissan's treatment of the Canadian buyers is abhorrent. The Bose fix has been available to the American buyers for quite some time now. How long do we have to wait? |
I agree, we have been shafted for everything. I have recieved nothing from Nissan in the mail, and the dealers are not given the same access to information that the US dealers seem to be. A few of us have been to dealers complaining of gear grind and they always say "We took it out and everything seems normal to me". It seems like in the States, they dont even second guess you, send down a tech and replace the tranny no problem. Why is it that the dealers here do not know anything about this car. I am really scared taking it to the dealer when I know more about the car and its flaws then they do. Listen, all cars have some flaws, and I LOVE my Z, but I would have thought that dealers would be faxed constant reports on common problems and fixes.

Good points guys. Maybe its time to take it to another level and get Nissan's regional reps involved. Bobbyz's right, we seem to know more about these cars than the people at the dealers do. That would point to the fact that we need to be dealing with Nissan Canada and not the dealers.
There should be a regional rep for each area. There's one here for Vancouver, I do know that. Maybe that's where we start? They're the ones that are going to act on this sort of thing I would imagine. I've had many dealers say they couldn't "replicate" the problem that I've asked them to diagnose. Nissan and non-Nissan dealers too so I don't think the problem's exclusive to Nissan at all. May I suggest that they document your complaint even if they don't find something? I had the same thing happen to me with my old Pathfinder and an intermittently functioning power window. It wouldn't work for me but it would work for them? Next time I encounter something like this, I will go on the drive myself with the tech and make sure I show them exactly what I'm talking about. |
have many of you noticed the shifit grind?
How about you Van? Is yours doing that?

Hello,
I am in Edmonton, and have the stereo problem and a weird shifting problems (hard to get into 4th, is that what you mean by gridnding?) I called Nissan Canada and they plead ignorance on the stereo issue saying the Canadian stereo's are different than the US ones (right). I just mailed bose and they replied, I forwarded the reply to Nissan Canada on Friday letting them know even Bose agrees it is a problem and they should admit it. Jot |
don;t get too excited about that amp TSB... I had the amp replaced in mine and now I have low bass output and treble and bass controls have little to no effect...
there is still a problem ... I spoke with a Bose rep and a Nissan rep and they both said even after the amp TSB something is still not right. They may be holding off Canada until they figure out what the problem is so as not to have to do things twice. |
Write all these down on your survey when you received them, I did;) and hope this will push Nissan Canada a bit to do their job.

My stereo works just fine. At lower volumes, you can hear a bit of volume modulation depending on your speed (like if you pull up to a stoplight)but it does not sound bad at all. It sounds exactly as it should and is not a bother at all.
My car was October production. VIN >7400. I'm intersted in seeing this TSB for Canada and applicable VIN's. I'm still waiting for my survey from Nissan Canada. My sales guy called me a couple days after receiving the Z and checked up on me. I've already taken into the shop once since my tire pressure sensors were going off. Turned out that the guys that PDI'd my car didn't inflate them to the correct pressures. Different dealership though (closer to my office) and they called me the very next day to see how the service was. |
My front rims were damaged prior to delivery but my dealer didn't even mention a word of it and I was so excited that I only noticed it when I parked the car at home. Anyway, they replaced my front rims during 1st service, but they didn't even bother to adjust the tire pressures to match with my rear tires (although this was part of the 1st service).
They had also scratched my rear bumper near the licence plate  and reported that they fixed the scratch. However, they did nothing about it as the scratch is still there. The dealer also totally ignored my complaint about the rattling sun visor. They were nice enough to wash and wax my car, and I do appreciate them for doing that. In reference to the Bose problem, oddly enough, it seems to have improved by itself over time. Maybe it's growing on me. In any event, the amplifier is faulty and they should address this legitimate problem by a TSB as they have already done so in the US. I don't have any problems with the transmission. The car is great and a pleasure to drive. Just don't drive it in snow. I don't know if the winter tires help, but the summer tires are absolutely helpless in snow. I got stuck a couple of times in the storm last night. |
With winter tires my Z is doing great in the snow. Funny you mention the Bose seeming to get better with age. I have noticed this too. But like you said, I can still tell that it is not "right" yet.

My Bose replacement amp arrived today, a nonth after I took in a copy of the US TSB to my dealer.
So they are comming. I am not going to install it, but will keep it for when I sell the car, and remove the new sub, speakers and amps I have installed. |
Canada BOSE fixes are starting to come in
Hello,
I have a 350 in Edmonton and complained about the stereo about a month ago (see post above). I just got a call a few days ago saying my stereo fix is in, and my service appointment is on Monday (Jan 20 03). After I get it fixed and listen to it for a few days I'll post my remarks. I'll also ask all which parts were replaced. As an aside, I am really happy with the dealer's service (Erickson Infiniti Nissan in Edmonton) if anyone else is looking for a Z in Edmonton. Good people to deal with, and service folk that seem really proud of nissan product. I have the volume fluctuation problem, I hope the fix cures that. The system just sounds of poor quality though. My rear speaker also buzzes and rattles. Jot |
I agree with Vanstorm
and if u think about it, the audio pilot is just doing it's job by replicating those unwanted frequencies emanating inside the cabin and cancelling them out. That's why the volume seems to drop just a tad when u stop the car. Personally, my Bose stereo sounds great. If you have ever worn a set of Bose headphones with the audiopilot feature, the same thing will happen. It makes the sound clearer....at least it does for me anyway.

I'll have to agree with wotnot.... my bose sounds decent.... not crisp... but decent. But sign me up cause, I could always use a new amp!:)

Canadian Bose Amp Replacement
Hello,
Z owner from Edmonton. Last week I got the Amp replacement on my Bose, and drove it for a few days before posting these comments : - Most annoying problem, the CRAZY volume fluctations evident on early production Z really seems to be FIXED. The radio at times would randomly turn the bass so loud you couldn't understand what was on. Big Plus There. All new Z already have this fix. - However, the stereo I would rate as merely adequate. It does not sound like a quality product at all. I am not sure if Nissan will fix this, since it isn't an obvious problem per se - it just sounds like cheap crap. The base doesn't ever boom, the midrange sounds poor, and the tweeter just barely tweets. I like the head unit controls. I like the fact the cd magazine is in the front. I like the integration of the system behind the seat and the doors. Jot |
no BOSE fix in Canada yet?????
I just called three dealerships in Toronto area, and they all pleaded ignorance and told me there is no TSB for a BOSE fix in Canada. WTF?
Are there any members from Toronto who were able to have their amps replaced? |
I printed out the TSB and brought it to my dealership.

Really ! Score one then for Ericksan Nissan in Edmonton. They clean the outside and the inside of the car every time I go there as well.
With the 2 major problems I have (stereo and shifting) both times the dealer service told me they called Nissan Canada. I pulled out the service invoice for the stereo fix. COMMENT : Install ordered stereo unit as ordered CAUSE : Replaced Amplifier (improper operation) RN60A1 Replaced Amplifier 1 28060-CD400 Amplifier I have no idea what those numbers mean but perhaps you could call your service people and give to them. Also, you have to have a early production Z with the volume fluctation problems, the fix doesn't seem to do anything else. |
