Another horror story for you guys...

I picked up my Chrome silver 6 speed touring tonight and as soon as I approaced the car I saw it....

2 DIMPLES right where the front license plate should be mounted!!!
The entire dealership knows that I did not want a front license plate bracket put on and they swore that every Z they have gotten comes like that from the factory. They even showed me a brand new altima that had it also. The dimples do have paint over them so it doesn't look like someone did them recently because the paint would be taken off on those points. It is the law in New Jersey to have a front license plate, but I was planning on trying to get by with sticking one in the windhield or not having one on at all. The manager stonewalled me instantly and declared that he delivered a factory product in the exact specifications of what I ordered. I tried to cancel the sale and get my deposit back but he stonewalled me again. (They actually have right on their contracts that I signed when I ordered it that all deposits are Non-refundable.) Needless to say after about an hour of raising hell I saw that I wasn't going to get anywhere. I even tried to get the manager to agree to have the body shop fill in the dimples and respray the area. I knew that they wouldn't do this if I didnlt accept the car already because hten I could say that the car is not right after they painted it, so I even said that I would accept it and sign for it and just have it written in the contract that they would try to fix it. The sales manager denied any responsibility to do this and refused my attempt to find a common ground. He stuck to his guns and said that they all come like that to the dealership. I finally gave in after calling my girlfriend's boss, who is the manager of a mercedes dealership up the road. He said that if the contract says that the deposit is non-refundable there is nothing I could do. He also couldn't understand why I was making such a big deal out of the front plate situation. (!!!!!!)

Well the car is in my garage and I guess I will get over it. The clear front reflectors are already installed (sevice dept did it at the dealership) and it is gorgeous.

At this point I just want to somehow prove to the dealership that all Z's do not come with the dimples imprinted. Suggestions???

(Can't wait for that CSI survey to get to my house...got the sales manager buisness card)

navy-z 12-30-2002 07:26 PM

What ZGirl said, they all have the dimples.

ares 12-30-2002 07:37 PM

now if they have HOLES that was their doing. the dimples are there so they know where to drill the holes.

zcar70 12-30-2002 07:40 PM

Yup,

THEY COME FROM THE FACTORY LIKE THAT!

NOT your dealer's fault! Not a big deal, still looks better than that damn front plate bracket!

Intrepid 12-30-2002 07:42 PM

Your dealer was right. The dimples come on ALL 350Z's from the factory. They are there so that it's easy for the dealer to drill holes in the correct place for the licencse plate bracket. I suggest you call your dealer back and apologize. :)

Totally agree. Should've researched this before going ass-clown on the dealer.

TRACK350z 12-30-2002 08:32 PM

duh, have to say that.
Thats where they are supposed to mount the plate. How else are they going to do it in the same place every time, use a measuring tape!

Old Skooler 12-30-2002 08:53 PM

Heh, a rare case of the dealer being on the right side...I agree with the apology idea.

Red350Z 12-30-2002 08:57 PM

hehehehe

............funniest thing I've seen all day--the term "Ass Clown" has been redefined! Well, congrats on the new car anyway--you might want to enjoy it before your dealer pisses in your tank!

ROFL - i needed a good laugh. Oh man.

Yeh I would apologize to the dealer. I for one am a victim of front license plates! ARGH

westpak 12-30-2002 09:20 PM

Hard to believe someone would make a scene over the dimples!!! It just makes it harder for those that do have legitimate issues with the dealer, I would be embarrased to have posted this an definetly apologize to the dealer for being an ass.

infinite z 12-30-2002 09:28 PM

Uhhhhh yeah this guy is pretty much a freakin idiot. Gimme a break, I can't believe he'd bust some balls over the dimples. Figure it out genius, that's the way the cars come! Christ!

spf4000 12-30-2002 09:43 PM

Man, that is embarrassing. You owe an apology to your girlfriend too, because now, her boss thinks she's dating a complete lunatic. :p

sage 12-30-2002 09:53 PM

So many other people posted I *almost* hate to pile on. But....

How in the heck did you imagine the dealership put those dimples there? I mean, I just can't understand how you thought the dealership did that?

Kind of pathetic if you ask me. But thank you for the laugh. I had a $%^&&# day.
