WRX wagon is not faster then the 350z... check car and driver. The WRX sedan according to them is not even faster. I have driven both though and I can't tell a diff. Interstate 350z will win... from light to light the WRX awd will prob win due to traction.

Dont get me wrong. I love my Z. I have been in the Z community for 4+ years, but the Z is underpowered and/or overweight.

agreed the Z looks awesome handles great but it is about 30 hp under powered and about 200 pounds over weight.

Chevy Impala SS- Base 31k, 5.7 0-60 Traps 100+ (Driver's race)
Volkswagen R32 - Base 30k+ Close enough (Driver's race)
Nissan Altima SE-R - Base 30+K New one supposedly is faster 0-60 than Z:?? (Driver's race)
Vovlo S60R - Base 36k 5.4 0-60 1/4 14.4/100mph Traps same speed as most Z drivers.
Pontiac GTO - Not a 4 door, but looks like a grocery getter. (04 driver's race, 05 not really close anymore)
Acura TL closing fast- Base 33k (Nice car, but its no two seat sports car)
Mercedes Benz C350 - Base High 30's
Lexus IS350 - Base 35k
Pontiac Grand Prix, whatever close enough to be a drivers race.
SRT4, STI, EVO all 4 door grocery getters which can whip or run with a Z. Really starting to get disappointing. Don't even get me started on trucks and SUV's that are closing in on our performance models. The Z06, while not my style, is starting to look better everyday.

I think maybe were looking in the wrong place and direction. I really find it hard to believe that Nissan will re-engineer the motor placement in the chassis to maintain a near 50/50 weight split for just the sake of a V8 in the 350Z and G35.
I've been looking at the new VQ40DE 4.0 V6 24V 270HP/291TQ in the Pathfinder as the new V6 powerplant for the 350Z (400Z?) in the near future. Still looking for more info as well. This 4.0 may be a great base motor for a stroker or destroked RPM screamer or ...... who knows? I would appear to cover the need for more horsepower, minimal chassis design changes, and provide a new stronger block design? and could very well be in development for the "new" G35 design in 2007 and implemented in the 350Z in 2008/09.
Just my .02 of trivial thinking

+1 Whatever motor they put in the new G will be in the new Z...
CASE CLOSED!!!
The new GTR is supposed to have a 3.7tt so the Z will get the same motor minus the tt. Now big thing will be if that motor has forged internals....then the REAL fun will start.
