whoaishjustin Jan 9, 2006 09:36 PM

Do a bit of research. Search feathering 2004.

Mine seems pretty normal so far... early '04 w/ 14k mi.

itburns Jan 10, 2006 12:12 AM

Mine 22,000 on the front tires w/o feathering.

Jun Jan 10, 2006 11:20 AM

'04 - 40,000 miles, no feathering.

SeanG Jan 10, 2006 12:15 PM

04' with feathering. Many 04 and 04.5 Z's have the feathering issue.

Mine started at 5,000 miles. They did alignment and rotate, came back at 8,000 miles. They ordered the new tread pattern potenza. Have 14,000 now and the new tire design works perfectly. Not a single peep out of the new tires.:)

I have an 05 with no feathering.

oh wait a minute!, you asked for 04

duh!

lax91181 Jan 10, 2006 02:23 PM

i only have 4k so far and no feathering. I think it is more hit and miss on the 04's

rmesola Jan 10, 2006 03:14 PM

swapped out my tires for all weather at 5K... big difference in tire noise... I could finally hear my stereo...

No feathering noted, but I convinced dealer to align wheels under feathering warranty... tires were out of alignment...

2K miles later, still no feathering...

I think it's hit or miss, but before you go around worrying, have your alignment checked at some point in time... ( nissan issued new alignment specs last year I think )

JoneZZZ Jan 10, 2006 03:26 PM

I have an 04, noticed feathering at 9,000......got an alignment and front tire replacement.......have not had a problem for the past 14,000 miles.....

Sin Jan 10, 2006 06:02 PM

how the hell did you rotate your tires? unless you crossed the fronts or are going for those funky-weird same size on all 4 setups... From what I recalled it was actually an alignment problem when you came into the shop you had to put on new skins and re align it.. My shop did so many 350z back in 2003 that it was insane hahaha

D15na Jan 10, 2006 06:53 PM

yes, i had it.. acually goin to get it fixed tom.. 28k on original tires leads to flat tires, i took it to nissan and they said i had to get new tires before they could align it. totally cool about it tho

arejohn Jan 10, 2006 08:34 PM

I don't see any more feathering complaints since the tire upgrade and alignment revision.

KYS1219 Jan 10, 2006 10:04 PM

i don't have any problem with the stock rims, but it started to feathering after i installed the volks around 3k

'04.5

19000KM

no tire feathering or "any" other problem.

HyperSprite Jan 11, 2006 08:05 AM

I have an 04.5

My stock 17s had some odd inner tread wear that appeared around 12k and I kept driving them till they got to 20K and they never got the growl people talk about with feathering. Folks with 03s were telling me, yep, thats feathering and it's gonna get noisy any day now, but it never did. Other than the odd "every third block not touching the ground look" inner wear the tires wore evenly across front and back and at 20k I switched them out for some 05 stock 18s. It's only been a few thousand miles so it's to early to tell what will happen with these, I am optimistic they will be no worse than the last set.

04.5 Had nissan give me new tires at 12,000mi and am now at almost 14K. Too early to tell, but I think it solved the problem.
