Paint shop F'd me over. What do I do?
 

Alright so here's the story. A friend of mine had a hook up on paint jobs because she's friend's with the owner. I go and get my front bumper and sideskirts painted from her buddy and think everything is fine until one week after I have front bumper and sideskirts painted. There are 3 small paint chips on the front bumper, one is located right in the middle of the bumper and no it isn't because a small rock hit it. The other two are located on the
left side of the bumper right near the fender. Now I'm no paint pro but I do know that the paint will chip off pretty fast if the part hasn't been primered. So I did the obvious and called him asking if he primered it. This is what he said. "I didn't primer anything because it's fiberglass" That was the stupidest thing I ever heard but I haven't told him about anything yet. I'm supposed to back to his shop to get everything wet sanded. I'm almost certain he won't give me my money back so what should I do? And I could ask him to repaint it but now I don't trust his work and I don't want to leave the car with him I don't have the time for that. One thing I do know though is that he wouldn't accept a credit card from me and only cash and told me he doesn't own a credit card machine right now so he's avoiding paying any tax to the state. Anyways thanks for all the help.

Try to get ur $ back or threaten to report him for the defects. Im sure he wouldnt want to hurt his reputation and hell prolly end up repainting them perfectly. Good luck!

They're basically not going to give you cash back or do the job over for you the right way. On fiberglass parts your suppose to use a urethane primer, a really good primer for the fiberglass parts, expensive though. "Try" to talk it over with the shop and try to come to an agreement, otherwise, good luck :)

+1. There is no such thing as a good, cheap paint job. Live and learn.

a decent paint job woulda set you back at least 750 if not a little bit more for the front bumper and the two side skirts.

what can we help you on this beside you go back and ask them to repaint it.

There is IF you know the owner yourself. I got my stuff paint for free or at very low price because i refer lots of business for them. :icon38: It's a win-win situation for both.

Same thing I got my engine painted for 50 bux, paint cost 48 for 8oz which is PLENTY to paint the parts I wanna do in the interior, so he made 2 bux off me and the rest of the jobs are free once i get the time to sand them down myself take them up there he shoots, and we are done

speaking of sanding the interior, what kind of sand paper are you using?

thats not right, ask him nicely to repaint it first, then pullout the big gunz

i dont have any big guns i just have a pair of brass knuckles. =) hahaha

You dont need big guns.....just go by a 5 gal gas can and carry it in when you re-negoiate the painting of your bumper. =)

if the parts are properly prepped, you really don't need primer. the primer just digs into the existing surface. if you sand with some 320 grit, you will get a good bite into the existing surface. this is a generalization, there are many other areas you need primer for sure. if not sanded first, it will flake off eventually. now possibly your situation is the fact he used a low quality or just one coat of clear. making it extremely easy for the paint to be chipped from a rock or anything like that. no mater how much primer is used or base coats, a cheap or low mil. clear will easily chip.

hey overzealous thanks for the input. I talked to the guy he said, he primered it and even sanded it down so it probably is the fact he used low quality paint or not many clear coats ill have to find out tomorrow.
