I Think he was refering to warming the tires up before a drag run.

Traction is a major problem at the drag strips here. Burning out should give me just a little more traction, even with "street tires", right ?

Danny
I understand you wanted to drag a street car, that's no problem at all. But street tires LOSE traction after you burn the tires...they are the opposite of drag slicks... Drag slicks need to be warm, but street tires don't. You'll get worse traction if you burn them out before a run.

This is how I do it in my AT Gsedan....

From a very slow roll, floor it, and gradually slow it down to a stop while I burn money.....

Cool

Absolute truth. You can tell the noobs at the track by their burn-out technique. If they are on street tires they drive through the waterbox and try to get their rear tire (sometimes both!) smoking. A pathetic attempt to appear "tough" and "hot" - and a great way to look like a noob...

Experienced drivers on street tires will drive around the water box and keep their tires dry, no spinning prior to the launch on the last yellow light. Not having hot greasy tires helps a lot in getting traction, especially on a prepared track surface.

Ok, I C. Thanks, that helps out a lot. No more spinning my tires from now on.

But... errr... we don't have waterboxes here and as far as "prepared surfaces" go, we have our drag racing on airstrips (for small planes) so it's just plain concrete track. Guess "cold" street tires are still better, right ?

Thanks again,

Danny

It's easy....and anyone who say's you can't do burnouts or drifts with an auto hasn't seen me yet. Just grab the break rev up a little, then dump the brake and mat it at the same time....Instant burnout....but it's true on the dragstrip with street tires no burnout needed. You'll get better traction without doing it "trust me I live right beside a racetrack"......

there are 2 versions of a brake torque kit for sale if your interested. perfect for drag strip use. they're not $5 though, lol. but you do get what you pay for. if anything, i'd say its a lot easier to spin the tires in an auto then a manual.

This is a question asked by an 18-year old the day after he gets a 350Z. I looked at your mods. This is not serious question.

LOL, you should really put your brain in gear before operating your mounth (fingers in this case). To put it differently, DON'T JUST ASSUME, WI$EA$$

I'm 39 and when I was 20 I drove amateur rallye in Germany (where I was living at that time) . Those days are over for me now (Married/Kids/Business = reponsabilities) but I still like the adrenaline rush from pure speed, so I decided to take up drag racing,

Here's my Z at a local Drag Race: http://www.mundorpm.com/multimedia/d...lbum=19&pos=58
