s2000 hid vs. 350z hid
 

How come theres are way cooler looking not to mention a hell of a lot brighter. Can I get mine to look like that, what would that entale

if u think S2k HID are bright.. then BMW and Benz ones are killers.. i get blinded everyday by them

and those audi's too

you know whats worse? those raised trucks or SUVs.. their beams/ not even HID, regular yellow beams/ shoot right into the mirrors..sometimes along with some huge fog lights.. total blindness..

anyways, back on topic.. it'll be sweet if theres a bmw type set of HID made for the Z... anyone know anything like that? the 06 is brighter.. but still not very impressed

They are projectors, 2003-2005 Z's are reflectors. Buy the 2006 headlights if you want the additional brightness.

Alot of the Benz/ Bimmer headlights have the auto-leveling projectors.

They move up and down depending on the road so you get that blue-purple flickering effect. Our CLK points straight down when the car is off...then it moves up once you start the engine.

:) sorry bout that m0nkie :) I have a lifted truck and that happens to a lot of people in front of me, i dont try to do it...i pull up and try to have my truck so it doesnt shine in the back of them and also try to stay away from the vehicles at night if i can...but honestly the best part of it all is when a car then gets behind me and puts its brights on to make me mad, i laugh cuz my truck is lifted it doesnt effect me and i have an auto dimming mirror lol...but i do have the z now as well so it will be happening to me too...so i guess it will all come back to me :) oh well...the price you pay..

Are the HID headlights on the '06 different than previous years?
I know that Nissan changed the amber side lenses to clear, and the construction of the headlights internally does look different than previous years - but does this mean that Nissan changed the HID's on the '06 Z to the "projector" type/style?
I know that '06 Z does have bi-xenon for both low and high beams.

Yes, the high and low beam are now HID instead of just the low beam. They are brighter as well.

s2000 hid's are far superior (color, sharpness, light output) then any nissan system, 2006 z high beam or not. go to hidplanet.com lots of useful info there..

and they are TRUE projector lens, instead of our hybrid projector/reflector (03-05).

s2000 headlights are brighter and have a much wider and sharper cutoff then any BMW/Audi HID system IMO.

I dig halogen highs better than HID highs...I'd rather have the more fuzzy light-line then have a sharp cut off...safer IMHO.

the s2k pwned all not because of brightness or blueness (i.e. bmw, benz, audi etc), but because their lense has a multicolor coat on it, so when the car is at different angles you get all kinds of crazy colors, blue, purple, green, red, yellow, pink, all colors as the car changes lanes behind you or bounces up and down on bumps--you can see the color changes

That's why the S2ks are better, i've never been blinded by the S2k headlights. All i see are two dots in my rear view mirror. When i'm beside an s2k or behind one, i can see the whole road lit up.

I agree, I have a friend that has one and at a line up you really see the difference.

Yup S2K headlights for teh win. Sharpest cut-off and most well-defined light pattern I have seen. Whoever designed those projectors with Honda (Bosch, etc.) must have made the design proprietary to Honda only....otherwise I would think some other car manufacturers would be using similar projectors and bulbs. It is kind of annoying though when one is driving behind you, and you constantly see the cutoff line from his lights bouncing along the side of the road next to you. I find it distracting.

I really like the HIDs in my '06 Z, but I think the color should be a bit whiter (similar to S2K) and the 'kink' in the middle of the beam pattern is too drastic....should be a smaller step like the S2K has. HOWEVER, we do get the bi-xenon function which eliminates a crappy hi-beam bulb reflector from the headlight assembly.

My only other complaint is that I feel the '06 Z HIDs should be a bit brighter. I am guessing this could be accomplished by swapping in a new set of bulbs and more powerful ballasts...but I haven't consulted HIDplanet yet to see if that's even a possibility.

Looks like lot of people run 24 Hr Le Mans with their Zs. May be they should get an array of lights if they are running on rallys at nights.

For regular use, I find Z's HID more than adequate for my taste. I dont do things for the coolness factor, it just is idiotic to me.

Guys, the S2000 headlights are made by the same manufacturer that makes our Z headlights: Koito. I have a set of S2000 HID headlights that are fully functioning, and I have them hooked up to a 12V power transformer in my living room, and use them as room lights! *Very VERY bright room lights* I have held them up to my Z's lights at night outside, and yes, the S2000 lights are brighter, and have a better cutoff. However, the color dazzle effect that everyone is talking about is NOT due to any coating on the S2000 projectors. It is simply caused by the positioning of the projector lens in relation to the metal cutoff sheild that is located inside the projector housing. You can make your Z headlights have the exact same rainbow cutoff by repositioning the cutoff sheild inside the light housing. Obviously though, this would require some major surgery on the headlights themselves.

As a back story as to how I obtained the S2000 lights, A friend of mine crashed his S2000 into a tree one night, and the next day when I came over to examine the wreckage, I asked him if i could have the headlights (the car was totaled), and he said yes. The headlights were in perfect condition! So now they have a second chance at life as really cool room lights.

LOL...what a story. Your friend deserves a case of beer for giving you $1200 lights.
