Got stuck in 1st for a few minutes
Hey guys i need some help. i was diving home just now and wanted to see if my new exhaust made a difference. so i took off hard from a stop and it wouldnt shift out of 1st gear and i have a auto and i was using the manual mode. so i put it in to D and it still wouldnt shift and then i stoped at the next light it finally started shifting normal. so has this ever happened to anyone else? should i take it to the dealer?

Hey I know exactly what you are talking about,
Last summer (I have a 2004.5 Touring 5AT) I was cruising back to work, and there was this RX8 mad revn his **** on the other side of the light, so like a dumb*** I decided I would put it into Neutral and fudgin rev the crap outta it, well I misjudged coming back into gear and the rpms were still high so in essence my wheels start screeeechn like crazy so I know I nuetral slammed it for sure but as soon as the car let up the car was stayin in high rpms as though i was in the manual mode and I couldnt for the life of me get past going 26 mph without the rpm's kicking like crazy, I tried shifting back and forth from auto to manual slowing down, and I could shift to second in manual but to no avail. Finally I pulled in the middle turn lane stopped the car put it in park and turned the car off. Waited a few seconds then restarted and started driving back to work like nothing happened. It was the oddest thing and I posted in my Zcar Clubs forums postings and even they didnt know what had happened and I'm still clueless to this day.
Good luck to you and keep me posted if you happen to find anything out.

Samething happened to me about 2 times. Both times i pulled over and restarted the car and everything went back to normal, but it shouldnt have happened in the first place. I also have the 5AT in the 2005 model year with touring package.
