NISSAN can't find the problem
 

Whats up everyone

Having an issue with the Nissan dealership in Virginia. 2 days ago I drove my car to my house and parked it. Stepped into my house for about 3 minutes then went back to my car and the car would not start.

To make a long story short, i brought the car to the dealership in VA and it has been 3 days now and Nissan can't find out what the problem is.

This is what they have told me so far:

1. There is a possible short in the electrical system

2. They replaced some unit that reads the image from the key and that still didn''t fix issue.

3. They think it might be the antenna or another body control unit.

Has anyone had any expierience with this and might know what the problem is so i can get my car back.

Auto or Manual?

You moved from Long Island to VA?

The year of my car is 2003 and it is a Manual. I live in both places between vacation and work.

Muffler bearing...JK.

Did they check the sensor that detects that the clutch is pressed in?

watch the alarm light above the speedo, I believe if its on steady then the car will not start because of the nats system not reading the key correctly.

This was a intermittent problem with mine, they replaced the BCM--body control computer-- and that fixed the problem.

I had the same thing happen to my 03, after 2 or 3 minutes of trying it started and it never happened again. Although my battery is leaking, don't know if that could be the case.

Private message the user "milkmoney". He seems to know a lot more then us. He's a-soon-to-be Nissan technician!

It's probably a grounding problem in your electrical system.

Back track and think about all the things you did with your car recently that might have involved electrical.

More than likely one of the power wires feeding your electrical system, has been inadvertantly grounded, so it's draining all the power to the chassis, thus no power.

Try the fuse block to make sure all fuses are properly installed and, the amperage is at rated specifications and not lower.
The first indication that something has shorted is usually in your fuse block. From there you can narrow down your electrical problem to which electrical system may have caused the problem.

Don't forget that the ECU is what checks for the key code.

Be a little more descriptive about the symptoms. By not starting, does it not even turn over or does it kinda want to start and then when it feels like the motor should "grab hold" does it die??

mine did the latter in the same circumstances as what happened to yours. i came home one day. was in the house for about a half hour and then when i went to leave the car wouldnt start. it would turn over and even sound like it was igniting but would never stay running. it would almost sound like a stall out, like it was getting flooded. Mine is an automatic and the problem ended up being the electronic throttle control accuater. yours being a manual, i dont even know if you have that part. from what i understood the ETCU keeps the car idling at a preset RPM and doesn't let it stall out.

if these sound like your symptoms, this might be your problem.

Thanks guys for all your help they still have not found the issue and this is what they have checked so far.

They have already replaced the body control computer and that did not fix the issue.

They aslo went through the whole electrical system and tested all the wires and there is no grounding problem.

Currently they ordered an antenna (not sure about this one) they mentioned that this is used so that the BCM can talk to whatever it talks to. (sorry i am not technical on this aspect)

They said that if this doesn't work that they are going to try and replace the ECU next.

Don't you think the dealership should know what the problem is before just swapping everything out and basically doing a plug and play type of method.

what is happening to your car at the dealer is why a lot of aftermarket companies (firestone,goodyear etc)cant fix the car sometimes.we dont have all those expensive parts in the parts room.if we buy it and it doesnt work well we bought it.thats why i cant understand why so many people on these forums think,o god dont go there they dont now what there doing.take it to the dealer and get raped.good luck with your car they will just keep throwing parts at it untill its running again.sorry for the rant.

Well who do you suggest taking it to when it is under warranty. I thought that you had to bring it to the dealer if it was still under warranty.

Am I wrong with that statement!
