What's Your Opinion???

Ok here's a scenario:

I already have a g35 and I’m looking to start a new project. With around $15,000 to spend, what car would you all start with for a fun and fast project car? Not sure which direction I want to go (drag, autoX, show) so all opinions are appreciated.

240SX...

S13 or S14...

S13 will leave you more of a budget for modifiction...

In california, once you go SR route, plan on using a tow vehicle though...

Well I think before you even decide on this, I think you should decide on what you WANT to do with the car. I don't necessarily believe you can make a show car an auto-x'r.

IMO, you can make any car into a show car, but it takes a lot of money to win and be successful and set yourself apart. Drag cars are fun and you could probably combine that with a show car to have "show and go".

An auto-x car is a special breed though. You'll probably want something smaller, lighter, more nimble. Personally, I find spending $30-40 on an auto-x or $200 on a track day more rewarding than a car that just sits pretty.

decide which direction u want to go first

I would think that the early 90's MR2 would be a good cheap tuner car for tracking. Mid engine, turbo, rear wheel drive, and its light weight.

The only issue I know of it that it doesn't have as many aftermarket parts as your hondas and nissans.

One used Miata.....one Flying Miata Turbo Kit......as many track days as you can afford.

I would sell the G, buy a Z and mod the hell out of it.

Sylvia. You will be very fast, plus it was already made in Japan so the probability of going wrong diminishes greatly.

Also a modded Civic with a DOHC motor and VTEC should be a decent drive.

Old Corollas seem to be very popular drift car. Light, coupe, RWD, all the right stuff.

Miatas are a good bet also, but they need horsepower. So turbo it is a must.

Good luck. My project car right now is a Honda Civic that was lightly hit on the front. Bought it very cheap so leaves me budget to mod.

Bying a crashed car depending on the hit is a good bet as long as the chassis is not bent. Most cars come with replica parts also.

i would go with a SUPRA just love them.... almost bought one before my Z

streetracer Jun 23, 2006 02:13 PM

Supras are top notch but are expensive cars, specially the latest generation which is arguably considered a classic; at least for me is. Plus, modding a Supra is expensive. If you are talking about earlier generations, thay are heavy.

Mod your G. Buy a beater.
