Performance Nissan won't install aftermarket parts anymore...

I just got back from Performance Nissan, and Tim told me that
as of today their service department will not install aftermarket parts anymore.
Racing clutch, BBK, Plenum Spacer, Pop Charger - nada.

Apparently, they installed BBK on a customer's FX and something went wrong.
Tim told me that it's most likely manufacturer defect, but regardless they will not install non factory parts(unless there's a tech willing to)
Of course you can still buy parts from their Nismo department (Andy, Jason, Brian), but no more installation from service department.

This is a real bummer for me because I get almost all my stuff installed by them.
They performed a very good job on their installs, reasonable price, and Tim made sure everything got done correctly.
I really hope this is a temporary halt and things will resume back to normal there.

Now I need to find a reliable place to install my Stoptech Stage 2 Brake kit sigh.

thrill350z Aug 2, 2006 07:00 PM

makes sense they only want to work with their own product

Ed 718 Aug 2, 2006 07:06 PM

Huh news to me but let's see if this is true. If it is true then I would imagine they have a good reason but hopefully it will be temporary.

DavesZ#3 Aug 2, 2006 07:09 PM

Is it that they won't install aftermarket parts that they don't sell or they won't install any aftermarket parts, even if they sold them to you. I can understand if it is the former, not the latter case. Hardly anybody wants to do installs for parts they didn't sell.

Gators2001 Aug 2, 2006 07:17 PM

damn thats rough...

SilverstoneZ Aug 2, 2006 08:17 PM

Damn and I live only 5 mins from them.

Built2shredZ Aug 2, 2006 08:18 PM

Sounds like they wont install Non-Nismo Aftermarket products period, unless a Tech is willing to do it...

Taking a wild guess here, but sounds like one of there Tech's botched up a BBK install and all hell is breaking loose... Just a guess tho...

cvt Aug 2, 2006 08:21 PM

andy just told me today...i was really shocked as performance nissan was one of THE places for aftermarket installs...

Jason@Performance Aug 2, 2006 10:19 PM

ehhhh....

The Service Department has always been a different entity from our Parts Department... We try to work with them but well, it is next to impossible...

Actually what is going on, the service "Team" that used to do all of our work no longer wants to do it... Long story short, there was an issue with something that we installed (not a BBK) and the customer was having a problem with it... manufaturer started working with the customer, and we havent touched it since but something went even worse from there...

Reguardless, there are 2 other "Teams" that are more then willing to do the work... so, in the weeks ahead, we will be working with them finding tech's that we trust to do the work and make sure they know what they are doing before our customers cars our touched...

Its still being worked out, but should be all good by next week...

Ed 718 Aug 2, 2006 10:27 PM

Thanks Jason for looking out for us..........

I think all that is needed is a disclaimer. When adding aftermarket parts consumers should know that there is a considerable risk. Some consumers do not listen to installers and race thier cars right down the block, then boom. I would offer advice to consumers on products but leave the final choice with them. I would recommend the shop where I work but I would enusre the coustomer is aware that it is at there own risk.

If it worked before you broke it then you should have to pay to fix it. I do not know the story here but placing blame is always easier than admitting guilt. Reputation speaks for itself. If you installed over 100 of the same parts with no complaints then it is unlikely that it was the cause of the installer. I would never install aftermarket parts on my car and I would never blame an installer for what happens after the installation. I think finding out what caused the problem is more important than who is the blame. It makes it easier to share the cost of the repairs.

I am sure your shop team will survive. I would just have the customer sign a waiver relinquishing you from all defects once the parts are installed.

Sad.
I've heard about this from the other forum too. There's a rumor that the owner of FX is gonna sue Performance Nissan & Stoptech. It's just a rumor
