It's in the shop (oil consumption update)

Well my Z is in the shop and with any luck it will have it's new shortblock completed on or by Friday.

Originally last week the guys in the service Dept. said that I would not get a loaner car, that's it's not Nissans policy and that they 'might' be able to arange for a ride home for me from the dealer, which I was kind of like WOW gee a ride home oh how nice:icon14:

I was surprised that when I dropped it off today, they got approval from Nissan to give me a free loaner from Enterprise for 5 days or until they finish my car, I guess.

Service guy and I did a walk around of my car and I pointed out to him that my car has no dings, dents or sctracthes inside or ou of any kind, except for the scratch on my hood and that I intend to get it back in the same shape.

Well I've got my fingers crossed.

None of your mods could cause the car to consume more oil.

There is alot of information on here about that. Here are some links I found for you. The first one has to do with my experience.

chad68 To bad they are only giving you a shortblock, my cams were scored on the head from oil depervation so I talked them into a new longblock. You might want to bring that up.

Haha a KIA!!!

For 3 bucks a day out of my own pocket, I could have had a Pontiac G6 but I could care less what I drive as a loaner. The Kia costs me zip.

I'm betting there is a fair chance that I will end up having the same consumption problems with this new shortblock eventually and if so, I will tell them next time either a new long block or buy the car back.

I don't want to open the "breaking-in" can of worms, but may I suggest that you do not use the method you used the first time, and do the exact opposite for the new engine ?

What does that have anything to do with it?

JClit Sep 19, 2006 11:30 PM

I know youre going to tell me to search, but whats the difference between the long and short block?

I believe that the way you run a brand new engine for the first hundreds of miles makes the difference between good and poor piston ring seal.

I just got my car back and didn't check the oil level. I'd figured that they would have topped it off with fresh oil. Anyhow, with the new short block, I drove it for 150 miles and checked my oil. It was right where the L line is on the dipstick. It was 1 1/4 of a quart empty. Do you think this was because I have a new short block and oil is probably sitting around in there somewhere? It takes me FOREVER to put miles on my car because its not my daily driver. Besides my vegas trip, I have only put on 2,000 miles since Feb.06.

short block = everything except heads

long block = everything

Brocken Sep 20, 2006 12:10 PM

After three visits to the dealer and several calls to Nissan they still haven't offered me anything.
3500 miles and it's consumed 4 quarts or more. I guess I'll go in for one more visit...
in washington the lemon law starts at 4 visits for nonconformity.
Let us know how your new engine goes.

Chad68 Sep 20, 2006 07:31 PM

It's only been gone for 3 days and I miss my oil whore already:(

By the way Kia's suck!

Chad68 Sep 25, 2006 04:58 PM

Well got the call this afternoon and it's all done. Gonna pick it up Tuesday morning. Sure hope it's fixed and stays fixed.

So anybody wanna take bets whether I find a scracth, ding or both on my car or that something leaks?

NissanZfan Sep 25, 2006 05:08 PM

You will get it back, and nothing will be wrong, or go wrong.:fingersx: You will fall in love all over again. I am currently going through an oil consumption test right now, I also have a thread going regarding that so I will keep everybody updated.
