ive only had my Z since march 9th, but ive already put near 1400 miles on it. Probably 70% highway 30% surface so far ive managed 24 to 25 mpg.
Pure highway i got 420 miles out of a tank with 30 miles left on the DTE. hwy and city and i still get right at 400 with 30'ish left on DTE
im pleased thus far as my 03 ranger with the 4.0 v6 barely got 300 out of a tank of gas on a good day

6 pages of discussion on the simpel question "500 miles on one tank?"
Amazing!!!
1) The tank holds 20 gallons.
2) On the highway, the Z is easily capable of 25 MPG
3) 25 (mpg) X 20 (gal) = 500 miles

Based on my experience so far (only 3 months) with my '03 I'd say its possible if driving on the highway at 60-65 mph in 6th gear.
I get around 23-24 mpg in mixed conditions: 70% hwy @ 75 mph / 30% city. The low fuel light comes on around the 370 mile mark but I've gone up to 400 miles with the needle on E. At that point it took 17 gallons to fill back up. That means 3 gallons were left so it had (in theory) another 75 miles before running bone dry. The DTE reads something like 420-440 right after fill up, so 500 miles seems do-able. Personally I would not stretch it that far unless I had a 2 gallon jerry can ready for the car finally died.
The problem I've noticed is the cut-off on the fuel pumps vary, once I was only able to get 14 gallons in despite it being "empty" (assumed 3 gallons reserve). The fuel gauge never went all the way up so I know it was a short fill.

Hey, I usually fill up when I'm 1/4 left. Takes about 11gals. I check the DTE and says I can go 456miles ( Currently as of today). I have checked it before and it seems pretty close to it. ( Give or take 20miles ) the gauge also says I get 20.2MPG ( again as of today) And its been climbing ever so slowly. I do most highway driving. about 80Hwy/ 20Street.

I drive about 20 miles to work but its about 75% stop and go traffic, even on the highway. Checked my gauge and I clocked in at 8.9 MPG. D'oh! I justified the car thinking I'd get 20 mpg compared to my trucks rated 11 mpg. Oh well, at least this car is awesome!
