opinion's needed touch decision
SO i have a 2003 350z touring Daytona blue bought it with 18000 has 45000 on it now love the car. Well when i bought it i was working locally now i drive 75 miles a day and live in nyc im worried about the winter the snow mostley. I really dont wanna get rid of my z i have so many plans for it, it would really suk to get rid of it. I know it suks in the snow the only other cars that have the speed handle and practibility is the STI and evo but i would have to get the sti cause i think the evo is ugly. But i really dont like either of those i consider it being a downgrade i dont care about the mod potential i know downpipe no cat gives u like 30hp but it aint no z. Any guy out there put those blizzaks on there z can really drive it in the snow considering i drive 35 miles to work and 35miles back sry for the novell i been stressin this for a week now i want to keep it i dont want a stupid super launcher the fear of never going sideways second lol. But im starting to feel like its my only way to go unless i want a slow car. What do you guys think?

More excuses to miss work for "snow days". :)

hhaah lol but seriously wut do you guys think and i cant and dont want to get a beater if im paying for a car i wanna drive it
|
LOL... I'm going to beat the drum of "this has been beaten to death"... bum bum bum bum...
Anyways, you are going to her opinions from everyone on this that all fit into these 3 spots: 1. 350z does just fine in the snow if drive smart and put snow tires on it. 2. driving the Z in the snow is ok in some conditions but if it gets to bad out, you cant drive it. 3. you're stupid for trying to drive the Z in the snow and should sell your Z for even thinking about it. I grew up in colorado, I've driven in snow for 8 years of my life now, and on windy mountain snow covered passes feet of packed snow. Given that, I think that the Z does just fine in the snow as long as you have a good set of snow tires, put some sand bags in the back, and drive carefully, but you need to decide for you self what your own opinion of the matter is. |

im no where am i stupid im 21 i live in newyork my car is in my name in my insurance dought many of you do the same newyork is prolyl the most exspensive place to live and i cannot afford a beater car i mean i guess during the winter i should just stay home NOT reality check i dont live at home wiht my parents i cant just not go to work if i dont want you dont know me dont call me stupid im sure in denver insurance is like 2000 dollers for your z but in newyork its more lik 8000 so a second car is not a option and i need to make money to pay bills
but thnx for some of the usefell things u said dont appreciate being called stupid |
obviously I wrote something that made you offended, and that was not the intention.
If my must know I am 22, baught the car with my own money as am an electrical engineer, and have a good job. I in no way said you are stupid, I simply stated that you will hear 3 basic differnt opinions from people on this site. The 3rd statement above is NOT my opinion, and in no way did I ever intend to call you stupid. I said you can drive the Z in the snow, you just simply have to be carefull and prepaired. But some people on the site will most likely say statement 3 to you. |
I will not drive a 350Z in an inch of snow. My safety is more important than looking cool in a cool 350Z.
A Subaru with all-season tires will get you just about anywhere in the snow and ice. You can sleep sound at night not worrying if there will be a couple of inches of fresh snow overnight. Be smart. |

Buy a beater. And I mean BEATER. I picked up a POS VW for $300. It takes a little ingenuity to keep it running, but the basic mechanicals are good. Sure, I understand you want to drive the Z because you're paying for it. But think about how much worse you'll feel when you hit an ice patch in mid corner and put her backwards into a curb / wall / ditch, etc. (Not saying you can't drive, but sh!t happens!). Now, think about how you'll feel when your throw-away car goes into same curb / wall / ditch. At that point, you sign the title, leave it in the glove box, and walk away. There's something to be said for the piece of mind of driving something you care less about in bad conditions. And, if you like wrenching on cars to keep yourself busy on the weekend, but don't want to get into Z projects like some of the people here do, then it's a good way to keep your mechanic skills sharp, because these d@mn beaters need work. Think of it as fun.
Or, you could ignore all that I said, and for about the same price as a decent beater, you can get a set of Blizzaks for the Z to keep her in line, and hope everyone else also buys winter tires this year so they don't hit you. Good luck w/ your decision. |

Ok, well here's a useful one for you. Get a beater! Make it your daily driver (primary vehicle for insurance) and your insurance will most likely hardly increase at all. or even better do a SEARCH. This question has been posted probably 100 times. As for me...you may want to think before you referece someone's father. You don't know him, or anything about him for that matter. If you'd like I'd be more than happy to send you his name so you can google it. You might be surprised what pulls up. Ill give you a hint or two...1) He owns his own company and 2) Do you or anyone you know have any extremely large parcels or high end property you would like to get rid of? And No..I haven't lived with my parents since I was 18. |

Yeh lemans ur right i should but im prolly just gunna get blizzaks cause i dont have a driveway to fix a beater in lol wish i did i live in a condo but hey so yesterday i test drove a sti just to see what its all about i mean i thought it handles better then the Z i took it on the same high i drove on everyday and took the 35mph turn at 90 lol just like i do in the z with np i did it in the sti and the front wheels started sliding whats teh deal with that also it feels like a focus unless ur flooring it pretty much it suks unless u floor it all the time u can feel the z's power even when ur not flooring it i thought the sti beats us on the track

Buy a reliable beater and you won't have to worry too much about repairs. I live in NY. The first MOD I did was a 1995 Toyota Corolla 5 Spd DX. I bought it for like $1,500 and have been driving it 2 years. The only things it has needed so far are an alternator, Tires, Plugs and wires and I did the front brakes and rotors for $50 with pep boys parts.
I drive about 20-25K miles a year for work etc and I am able to put most of those miles on the Corolla. It is sitting nicely at 141K miles right now and I don't have to clean it or worry if someone keys it or eggs it, etc. I was at Taco bell drive through and some girl just backs right into the front of my car. I didn't even get out to look if there was any damage. It's a POS and I feel like a tool driving it but it "is what it is" annd has actually been more reliable and seen less shop time than my 03 Z. As for insurance.. I pay $25 extra a month for the Crapolla. I am also 32 Years old and my Z insurance is only about $1600 a year. If you haven't called Geico for a quote, I suggest you do. They were about $500 or more dollars less than other insurance companies I called. No, I do't work for Geico. STi is a cool car too. I have often contemplated trading the Z for one, but I do agree soemwhat that it would be a step down from the Z. Not performance or practicality wise, but Z is a true refined sports car, STi is a turbocharged sedan. |

Be smart. +1 He should also keep in mind what the salt does to the car too. If he can afford the car, he should be able to afford a beater and store the car for the winter. That's my opinion. If that is wrong, he is in for a rude awakening when the tires wear out. |

The STI is pretty much a focus on steroids. It is not going to be able to handle even close to what the Z does. If you want the AWD, you can do SOOOOOO much better than the STI at a fraction of the cost. Anyways, you are not going to be able to drive anything hard in the snow/ice without killing yourself or other people. The blizzaks are going to cost you more than a beater in the long run. |
