you are kidding yourself if you think that 7000 will cover this damage... that a pillar alone will cost 5000 to fix... look an insurance company chose not to fix that car for a reason... and that reason is that it is not worth it... i feel bad for you because you got screwed... but you arent going to get anything out of it... let me list out some prices for you
a-pillar... 5000
windsheild ... 1000 for nissan glass 500 for ppg glass
front bumper ... 700
hood... 700
fenders... 2000
airbags... 3000
new front crash bar... 600
new front chassis... 900
total 14,900... that is more than 60 percent of the value of the car... car is/should have been TOTALED
talk to a GOOOD body shop... tell me whether or not that comes close... i am pretty sure it is
but hey... you can always part out the car... your car has a nice rear end...

State Farm wants to sell my '03 Touring 6 spd (62,000 miles) back to me for $4,995 now that its been totaled.
A Tundra cut in front of me after it and an accord got in a side swipe accident in the two lanes to the right of me. I slid under the Tundra bumper. The car and trans still works and there does't seem to be frame damage. Most of damage is along the top of the car. The wind shield cracked from the rear points of the hood piercing it on both sides and of the air bags went off. Still $16,000 damage.

^Traffic must of have been hell for those 101 drivers. The damage to your car is more than you see. The radiator and front bumper support is pushed in. This means your front frame rails will have some stress and possibly bent. You may gain a bit if you piece it out, but worth your time?

I decided not to buy it back. I'm now looking for a new Z.

^It seems like you were just passed the Alvarado exit. $4900 doesnt seem much for that damage. I would have purchased it back, but I am good with my hands and would've taken every bolt apart on my own. You could've also taken a saw and cut it from the front windshield back and sold it for $5k-$6. That would leave you with a engine and trans for sale at a quick $1500...That's just me. Always trying to make a quick buck~

For that orange thing in the original post, you might get about 7-8 grand parting it out if you have a huge amount of time and patience -- seats looked good condition, stereo, rear suspension, wheels, tires.
For future reference just because you have a body shop "check out the frame" does not mean that the frame is not seriously damaged. You cannot tell these things, I don't care how many lasers you point at it. Just wait until you get about 5000 miles down the road and your left rear tire is cupping but none of the others.
If the car were worth as much as insurance is asking for it, they would not offer to sell it back to you. Period.

i don't see how i'm f**ked, it's like $7,000 worth of repairs MAX. And the car is worth what in excellent condition? $23k? Do the math. It's not as bad as you make it sound.

Um... A car in that previous condition (no matter how great it'll look after you're done) will never fall under the "excellent" category.
