Whats up with the Z's crappy resale value?

Whats going on? Such a crappy ass resale value. I payed 29,000 for my car OTD, 27,100 for the car. Now, its selling for 20k. 7,100 dollar depreciation after 1 year, 20k miles? WTF?
Dealers are offering me 17,500. Hell no. Craigslist.net FTW. I found 20 awsome deals within a few miles of me on there.

good luck with the sale

Bumpinjeep Jan 22, 2007 06:11 PM

I dont know, around the seattle area you could sell it for ~$24K no problem.

plumpzz Jan 22, 2007 06:16 PM

Well, do you want one :-D Ill cover the 700 for shipping lol.

plumpzz Jan 22, 2007 06:18 PM

Would you buy a car with one accident, no frame damage. Said it was a bumper to bumper accident.

CaliTouring Jan 22, 2007 06:20 PM

i wouldnt but many others that cant get a new car will.

HighwaySpeed Jan 22, 2007 06:20 PM

There are several thousand 350Zs out there. Dealers are greedy and they $uck. Always try a private sale.

plumpzz Jan 22, 2007 06:24 PM

Yeah cause my car was in an accident. I have pictures of the incident so its a lot of proof that it wasnt bad (it really wasnt). Someone gashed my bumper by a trailer hitch while reversing. Not my fault. Sinec the Z bumper is very much empty, you can imagine it went straight through and made a pretty hole in my bumper.

Value of a car always drops considerably the day it's driven off the dealer lot. That's part of it.

Fletch69z Jan 22, 2007 06:38 PM

It's the difference between retail and wholesale. It sucks but it usually takes a couple of years for depreciation to catch up to the amount you've paid off the loan. Sometimes more...

1) RWD Sports Car
2) New Jersey
3) Winter

Also, if you were trying to sell for 24k or so, it would be a lot easier for someone to spend a little extra cash and get a brand new one. The buyer then does not have to worry about how hard it was driven which is always an issue with #1 above.

BurnMac42 Jan 22, 2007 06:53 PM

I was also recently told by the dealer that for the first time since the cars release Nissan is offering rebates on the brand new Z's. This makes it more tempting for people to buy new and therefore harder for the stealerships to sell used......dont know if that was bull or not but its what they told me...

horse110 Jan 22, 2007 07:04 PM

If carfax has that accident as a record, maybe that's why you can only sell so low?

tranceformer95 Jan 22, 2007 07:16 PM

I had a $1k rebate on mine when i bought it, and i was in the market for a used Z and ended up spending that extra little bit for a new one. So i can understand why they might have trouble selling used ones.

Whats the bluebook value of your car?

xjongsangx80 Jan 22, 2007 07:29 PM

My local dealer offered me 24.5K...in condition of which everything I modified has be ON the car. Then what, sell it back to 30K+?? Yeah, right:icon22: Seems like they like to buy used modified vehicles to target blind folded buyers that likes to buy things with just exterior apperances.

dealers are in the business of making money, so they're always going to low ball you.

Dealers low-balling on wholesale price? I heard that they do that sometimes.:)

Kind of tough to sell a 350Z when there is 3-inches of snow on the ground. The buyer has to tow it home on a flatbed.;)

It's basic economics and the law of supply and demand. There is a huge supply of Zs in the secondary market and at dealerships and demand is probably tapering off.
