what's the differance??

hey guys i did a search on traction control and vdc and found lots of threads but i couldnt find exactly what the differance is between the two.

traction control im guessing is the less high-tech basic system for not sliding around. im guessing vdc takes it another step further but i have no idea what vdc does exactly. care to enlighten me?

Z04 Feb 16, 2007 07:07 AM

traction control is on the 5AT

VDC is on the 6MT

according to nissanhelp.com traction control is on all enthusiasts (both 5at and 6mtand the 5at touring, and vdc is on all performance , touring 6mt and track z's reguardless of transmission (except for the touring).

First of all this is incorrect, because you can have a 6mt enthusiast edition with just TCS, or a base model 6MT with neither.

Here is the difference between TCS and VDC:

Traction Control System (TCS)

To help enhance grip when accelerating, this system senses wheelspin and automatically reduces engine output and/or brakes the spinning wheel to help give you a surer foothold.

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)

Acting in tandem with TCS, VDC compares actual vehicle cornering performance to the driverīs input, adjusting power levels and applying appropriate brake pressure to individual wheels to help correct oversteer or understeer, helping keep the vehicle on the steered path.

z32 Outlaw Z Feb 16, 2007 08:18 AM

so take off TCS if u want to get on it?

jtabraham Feb 16, 2007 08:22 AM

yep

realcom2 Feb 16, 2007 08:26 AM

The simple way to understand it is TCS controls power to the wheels to help protect for overspining and stuff and VDC does all that TCS does plus it has the capability to apply the brake(s) if needed to a specific wheel .

ANXIOUZ Feb 16, 2007 08:32 AM

TCS is about tires spin (i.e., not gripping the road).

VDC is mainly about yaw. If the car starts to rotate unsafely when taking a turn, VDC will correct the original path of the car.

VDC includes TCS. When you turn off VDC it turns off both.

TCS does not include VDC.

oh i know that. but you show me where a 5AT has VDC, then you can call my statement incorrect

Well the VDC part is incorrect which is why I pointed out that your statement is incorrect.

marques1 Feb 16, 2007 09:00 AM

i know on the 03 touring it has traction control and vdc it has only 1 button though which says tcs for traction control on it but it also turns on and off the vdc also so the touring model has both for 03.

how so, since a 6MT is the only type of transmission to get VDC? yes all 6MT do not get this but maybe i should have been a bit more clearer when it comes to the base model. i keep forgetting about that one. :icon38:

ok, i will correct my original post. ALL models from enthusiast and up have the traction control, but only those same models with the 6MT have the VDC. i think that is a bit clearer now.

marques1 Feb 16, 2007 09:03 AM

jtabraham i have a 03 5at and it has both tcs and vdc man up you are wrong i was wondering the same thing and brought it to the nissan tech department and it also mentions it in my book i got with the car please take my word for it because i dont want to have to go scan it to prove this point.

marques1 Feb 16, 2007 09:06 AM

You Are Wrong

I have a 6MT Enthusiast. It has TCS but no VDC. This is why your statement that all 6mt models have vdc (with the exception of base) is erroneous.

marques1 Feb 16, 2007 09:13 AM

where do you get your info from im getting mine from my guide book from my 03 5at touring model and also the nissan tech department. This is the difference and it confuses people because the 6mt has 2 buttons one for tcs and a seperate button for vdc. it is evident that it has both well the touring 5at is the only other car that get both but it isn't evident because it only has one button which says tcs on it but it overides both the vdc and tcs why nissan did this i have no clue.

If you read the above posts you will discover that I never claimed that the 5at models lacked VDC. That is something I am unsure of, so I never made the statement you claim I have. If you go back to all the postings, you will discover that Z04 was the member who claimed 5at had TCS and 6MT had VDC

marques1 Feb 16, 2007 09:15 AM

sorry braham im talking to z04 he is wrong and has no clue what he is talking about when it comes to this topic. I wrote the wrong name in when i looked back up to sorry bro, yeah z04 has no clue what he is talking about that is for sure you are correct.

jtabraham Feb 16, 2007 09:24 AM

Thanks for the clarification marques
