Salvage title means that repairing the damage to the car, according to the insurance company, would cost more than the book value of it. Since it is a 2005, I would guess that the car was in more than just a "fender bender."

my Z is salvaged but i know only the driver door was replaced. If your going to seriously consider this you need a full carfax report and the police report from the accident that salvaged it so you can estimate how bad it really was. Also the fact that he said fender bender would make me want to check and make sure the frame is fine. And it should ahve a rebuilt title not just a salvage title as they are completely different things. get the police report and a mechanic to look at the car and you should know if you should buy it or not. Theres no way we can tell you based on that one picture.

Definitely have a mechanic and body shop look at the car. If you are too busy/cheap to do this, then take the car to Carmax. They do a pretty decent job of assessing damage and value. If the seller won't let you do this, then you have the answer to your question. IHMO, I would never buy a salvage vehicle, ever.

Salvage doesn't neccesarily mean a fender bender it could be salvage due to theft. Theft recovered vehicle are ideal to fixed as you have a fresh canvas to start with. Instead of puting back the oem parts, for the same parts you can go with some aftermarket parts. Go with some used parts or even used oem parts to build.

Think also what the value of your car is once fixed. Insurance estimate the value of the car by what the local dealership is selling it for within a 1/2 miel radius of your home address. Then they will take 15%-20% of the dertemined value. The final figure would be the cost of the settlement.

Salvage title means it has already been repaired and inspected, at least I think it does. It didn't say that it is salvaged, but that it HAS a salvage TITLE which has to be issued by the state.

I would never buy a selvaged car. Even it it was a Ferrari.

Salvage Title could also mean it served a stint as a U-Boat too.

On a serious note let me give you a some what positive example of salvage car.

Back in the day I use to the insurance auctions to build a second car. Back in 2000 I bought a 1996 Integra (DC2) for $2500. I put another $2000 into it in used parts. I went to honda-tec to buy all the parts. Sadly it was stolen. The positve part of this story insurance settled with me for $12000.

If you still don't notice a 350Z does not have a frame. It's a unibody car. It has a reinforced body and a front and rear subframe. Therefore it cannot have frame damage.

Also I'm pretty sure that it's half the book value.
