Exclamation I'm Coming Across a ' MAJOR ' Dilema.....!

After having actually driven a G35-Sport and really digging on the interior (so used to my Lexus plushness) of the G35-Coupe, and I really like the tailight and rear facia, and the fact that the power is sooooooo close...........? I just got a call today from my Infiniti rep who has been keeping me posted on the Coupe and she was like, "Well Marcus, I've found out that the Silver w/ Black loaded Coupe you want should be here 1st of November if you are still interested, I'll make a spot for you on our first shipments." This is due to the fact that friends of mine have bought a Q45 and QX5 from this dealership. Don't get me wrong guys, the Z is and will be AWESOME, but damn, I'm starting to picture my planned 19's and additional modification on the Coupe and I'm really, really torn!
So let the "Big debate begin............"
Z or G35 Coupe? Why??? Be very, very specific!

Default no Z for you!

you seem to be quite hung up on the creature comforts ... go for the G35. You'll get similar performance, better interior, no fixed mast antenna, better service from your infiniti dealer (see, they already know when the car is coming), but not-so-radical styling.

Default hmmmmm....

I think the fact the the G35 coupe will likely cost around $5000 more should be a factor. I guess it all depends on your money situation.

I was talking to Miss Cleo and she said both of you will get a 350Z, so there you have it.

But seriously, I know the Infiniti service, quality, and looks have both of you battling over ownership rights with the 350Z, so just choose the car that is right for you. I like the G35C but I would only get one as my second car to the 350Z . . . and get this I would get an automatic! I think both of you will wish on more occasions that you had the Z over the G then the other way around if you go that route.

Go back and read some of your old posts and some of the classic original threads and get back some of those goose bumps we all had. Then ask yourself: Which do I want.

Thumbs down G35 is NOT A 350Z

I've seen both up close first at the auto show and secondly in Huntington on LI.
The G35 IMHO is Bugly in the rear and is squat in comparison. Can't argue about the imenities in the Infinity but it's not a sports car its "sporty".
To each his own.
One Man's Opinion

The G35 is not a sports car it's "sporty" To each his own!

Personally, I am getting the Z. My tentative plan is to have it as my 3rd car for 5 years untill the GTR is here and proven. If the GTR is all the car it is supposed to be I may consider upgrading to that Infinity. I don't think the current G35C is any better than the Z and actually I don't like the looks as much.

jmanZ I am dissapointed with you. You should be sticking up for the Z. Why don't you change your name to JmanG and be done with it. With all the money you are pulling in from this site I would be putting my name on a 360 modena waiting list if I were you. (just kidding).

This is a serious topic, and any family man or woman should give it some thought. I have thought it through and think the Z will be a better performer because 1)slightly more HP, 2) slightly less weight, 3) shorter wheelbase and 4)firmer suspension/lower center of gravity.

Each factor is a small one, but as you can tell if you ever played don't spill the beans, each bean by itself is meaningless, but if you get enough of them together the results are clear.

Now that is the argument for the Z in the sports/performance category. If you talk about luxuery/ammenties/comfort the G coupe gets the nod.

For me (you must decide for yourself), I have a handful of cars (4-door/minivan/SUV), so I really only need transportation for myself and occasionally my wife. If this is my only car things might be different.

Also I would like to take the Z to the racetrack someday. The Z should be a great track car, add another 100 pounds and 6" to the wheelbase and increase the center of gravity and it may not be as fun.

Looks are subjective both look great. I saw the G35 sedan and it seemed like just another TL/ES300 clone, I'm not sure how much the coupe would fall into that catigory. The Z may look a little like the TT/911/supra but that's a comparison that favores the Z .

Interior the Z looks functional while the G looks fluffy and luxed out. (not trying to put the G down, but thats just my opinion, also I have not sat in either one yet)

The only negative thing about the Z is that it will be very common with the high school rich kids, while the G will be more for the country club set.

G35 coupe ADVANTAGES
Better Interior
Infinity Service
Back Seat -- if you want it

350Z ADVANTAGES
No Back Seat -- if you don't want it.
More HP Power
Lower Cost -- perhaps substantially
Carbon Fiber Driveshaft
Sports Car
More Aggressive Styling

I think the Z wins for two reasons: First -- Expense. If the Canadian option packages are any indication (and granted they may not be) you will only be able to get a manual transmission with the top of line sport package which includes Brembo brakes and other goodies, but will probably be pushing $40K.

Second, there will be a MAJOR performance dropoff from the Z to the Coupe. There will be less HP in the coupe, the coupe will be heavier, and the Zs Carbon fiber driveshaft will greatly reduce HP loss to the wheels.

I think I can state clearly, objectively and scientifically --Zs RULE!!!!!!!!!!!

Smile G35Coupe vs. Z350

Damn you TXSTYLE, causing the latest controversy

I must admit, the G35 Coupe looks niiiiice.

<img src="http://www.inetaccess.com/twinzz/g35coupe.jpg" border="0" alt="">

Equal:
* Same Engine
* Same Tranny
* Cost will be relatively the same if you factor in dealer markups on the Z

G35 For:
* Better Interior
* Infiniti vs. Nissan Dealer Service
* Better warranty 4/60 vs. 3/36
* Back seat (if you can't convince the wife on a 350Z, a G35 Coupe might suffice)

Z350 For:
* WOW/head turner factor!
* Z mystique, soul, history

I can see how you could be torn, choose with your head and you gotta go with G35Coupe. Heart says Z350. To sum it up like archduke said, it's the difference between a "sporty" car and "sportscar."

I'm still Z350 but choices are a good thing.

Default I don't think you can go wrong either way

but it is a tough decision. I personally really liked the Coupe at the atlanta show. It will probably be my wife's next car.

Default Major

I made up my mind rather quickly after I saw the pics of the Z and the G35 together. I like the 2 seater and the more urgent feeling I will get from a Z rather than the G35 coupe. Also, when we sell the 99 Maxima, I will probably get a G35 Sedan.

If I couldn't have the Z anytime in the near future, two months or so, I would buy the SEDAN with the sports suspension and upgraded wheels and tires. If I'm going to have 4 seats, they must be usable by real adults, not 7 year olds. The performance will be very close to the coupe, maybe less money too, If I buy one without a sunroof and leather interior.

Sacriledge? I have had several cars with "jumpseats" and I won't buy another when there are real 4 seat sedans out there with comparable performance and similar price tags.

P.S. Scratch the no leather G35 Sedan. If you don't order leather, you can't get the sports pkg or practically any other options. Just visited the Infiniti webpage, curses.

Marcus, to be perfectly frank, I take it that you are more of a roller than a racer and I DO NOT mean that in a deragatory sense. Nothing wrong with that and I'm sure you would do the G35 up as nice as your Lex.

I too went through the same thing when the G35 Coupe was unveiled in March at the NYAS after already placing my Z order in January. Do I want class and style or do I want an unadulterated driving experience? One quote from the CAR article sums it all up for me:

"There is no doubt about it - the 350Z is an incredibly tactile and sensuous sports car."
For the last few years I've tried to drive the cars I've owned as if they embodied that sentiment. They did not and failed miserably. I will not be *****-footing around in the Z (yeah, I got leather. So what? ) and intend to drive the f*** out of it every chance I get. That's who I am. In the long run, the G35 Coupe would probably not suffice my lust for a visceral driving experience.

Go with your gut. That's the ONLY thing you can trust.

Guys, I really appreciate your "positive" reponses! I mean no one 'flamed' me out because of this dilema, which is a pretty BIG one for me! I mean believe me when I say, I've had and love "Sports Cars"!!! You can't substitute throwing gears, the adrenaline rush of down-shifting & passing or the whole passion behind/embedded in sports cars of all kinds! But I've become kinda "spoiled" in a way with my current car, which by the way people is definitely no slouch by any means! In case anyone is wondering or unknowing a stock GS400/430 will crack off 0-60 in 5.7sec, 87 g. on the skidpad, 70 mph in the slalom, and Exotic-Supercar-like braking times of 60-0 in 113 ft.!!! For a car that is quiet as a whisper, Bullet-Proof enginerring and reliabilty, and sexy as hell it is truly one of the Greatest Cars on Earth IMHO! Add to that fact I've modded the output & suspension I would say all those above numbers have improved!
At any rate, I've also been informed that the G35 Coupe will be considerably less than expected or what some of you may think! Try low-mid 30's for a "Sport-Premium-Winter" package (loaded w/ all kinda of sh**) according to my Infiniti sales manager. Now of course THERE ARE NO HARD NUMBERS AS OF YET, But, this information was given to her by an alleged Executive source. And if that's the case,the Coupe would win hands down, for reasons most of you have already posted. I'll keep you informed as things develop, but I might just go and place a "refundable" $500 deposit down tomorrow just in case.................
