I've successfully repositioned the VDC off button to the Center Console.
Since I found it a little awkward to find the VDC off button a few times, either on the track or at an auto-X with a helmet on, I thought I would move the button. The VDC button fits beautifully next to the seat warmer buttons (for you touring owners). It was a little harder to re-wire than I expected, but the end results are great. Being a little too much of a perfectionist I didn't like having it off to the right with both seat warmers on the left. So I took it apart again and put the VDC off button in the center, with the seat buttons on either side. It looks great, and will be very easy to get to in the future. I took some pics and will post as soon as I can.

That's pretty cool. Post the pics! Also, maybe you could post the instructions for what exactly you did, or at least details on the harder parts? :p

Good work Scott... photos and more detailed instructions are always welcome.

I wish that was where it was from the start! I would probably leave it on more if I could do it quickly like that. As it is, it's off most of the time.

OK, here are some details. The blanks by the VDC and Seat warmers, etc are all the same size, making the swap easy. There are three screws to remove for the panel below the steering wheel. You will need to pop out the left plastic plate that covers the fuse box to get to one of the screws. Once those are removed you can pull apart the rest. After removing the VDC button I went back a few inches from the wiring harness and cut the 4 wires. I sodered (sp?) four new wires onto these.
Center console, hard part was gear shift knob, that was detailed in another thread. Pop up surround for gear shift knob and find two screws low in front of gear shift. Remove those, one under the small ashtray and the two back end of the console on the sides. The hard part of removing the console is getting the wiring harness apart on the right side behind the stick. This harness is for the seat warmers, hazard light, etc. A small button underneath with not much room needs to be pressed to realease the wiring harness. Once console is out you remove a metal bracket around the switches that keeps them from coming loose. Pop out the blank, put in the VDC, I recommend the center. put in the wiring harness you cut off earlier. soder on new wires to this harness. I added bullet connectors just to the right of the stick so that console could be removed again. Assemble and you are good to go. Since the track model does not have the seat warmer switches I am not sure it will have the brackets back there to hold the VDC button. Good luck |

Well I did six runs at the AutoX yesterday and it was great having this button there. As you know the car defaults to the on position every time you start it. It was great even with a helmet on to have the button right there.

Looks great, it was well worth the extra effort to put it in the middle.
|
Somebody also posted instructions on how to make it remember what position it was in when the car was cut off I think. Combining these two mods would be nice.

That is awesome. I dont know why they put it way down there anyway. How are you supposed to shut it off it you decide to race someone out of the blue, or slide around a corner?
The only thing cooler would be to have it come from the factory on the steering wheel like the Enzo Ferrari. I guess you would also have to have F1 paddle shifters too. Thanks for the post, Richard |
where is the stock VDC button located?

Sunset Z
What did you do with the hole that the stock VDC button was in???
Disc 108 - The stock button is on the lower part of the dash in front of your left knee |
This would have helped me this past Sunday.. I barely beat a pickup trunk to a lane merge because I couldn't find the VDC off button before the stoplight turned green (I rarely race so I wasn't prepared). The pickup driver wanted to make me earn the spot (I've done the same thing before). When the light turned green, he gunned it. I spun the tires a bit off the line (then VDC cut power), then the same thing happened when shifting to second (more tire spin, more power loss). I beat the guy to the merge, but looked like an idiot in the process. How embarassing....

SinsetZ you are a genius. That switch is WAY better there and looks great.
Thanks for posting the details. |
I put the blank from the center console in place of where the VDC button was originally.

I like where the factory put it - nothing looks cooler than launching your car with the gas flap open because, in the heat of the moment, you hit the wrong button.:p

HAHAHAHAHAHA... omg, that was the funniest thing I've read all day long. ;)

does it really make a big difference when the VDC is off or on?
|
Yes it makes a huge difference with it on or off if you are driving your car hard. If you don't drive your car like a sports car at least now and then, then no it would make no difference. I nailed the accelerator turning onto an onramp last night with it on, I was ready to make corrections for the tail sliding out, but the VDC did it all for me and I had to do nothing. It would have been more fun with it off.
I drove it last night for the first time at night since I moved the switch. It has its own back lighting that I didn't know about, just like the seat warmer buttons, so it looks really sharp even at night. |
