Nissan's Best and Worst Selling Cars of 2006
Found this today and skipped straight to nissan...
Company: Nissan Highest-selling car: Altima sedan * Base price: $17,750 2006 sales: 232,457 (down 9%) Lowest-selling car: 350Z convertible and coupe Base price: $27,650 2006 sales: 24,635 (down 10%) http://www.forbes.com/2007/01/26/bes...hisSpeed=15000 I knew the number was somewhere around 30,000 for 06... turned out to be lower than I expected. ;) |
Yeah I will have to find where I saw it but Ghosn took a hit on how poorly Nissan did as a whole. Especially if it is compared to how well they had done the previous years to 06. Ghosn said that 07 would be a year of reinvigorating sales. I don't see it happening because I don't see anything new that jumps out at me. I know they do not want the new Altima to clash with the Z but if they would have made it a little more sporty and it having a rear seat, I would have shopped and possibly bought.

Uh....the new Z is doing ok. |
like many cars, the manufacturers have to keep creating something new each year, this however starts to really destroy the original design of the first year car. So more ends up being less. Oh, BTW that's why I bought a 2003.
|
I understand the Altima , you seem them EVERYWHERE! , but the Z , the Lowest?? I think the lowest would be the Armada....
|
Couple of other interesting ones...
Honda Highest-selling car: Accord coupe and sedan * Base price: $18,625 2006 sales: 354,441 (down 4%) Lowest-selling car: S2000 convertible Base price: $34,250 2006 sales: 6,271 (down 19%) |
I cant believe only 6,xxx s2000's were sold in 06! Maybe that's why they hold their value
|
Less Z's sold the better ;)
|
Very interesting...many of the worst sellers are big SUV's - looks like their reign is over, we can finally see the road in front of us again!
|
Just because it's the lowest volume doesn't mean it sucks. It makes sense that a $30k 2-seater sports car would be the lowest-selling car in their line.
It's completely impractical and only suitable for (1) a single person, (2) post-college/trade-school, but pre-family couple, (3) Empty-nesters, or (4) people with kids, but have enough money that it's their second or third car. People with much more income than average drive Porsches, BMWs and Benz. It's also not suitable for hobbies such as Mtn Biking, Kayaking, camping, snow sports (no 4wd) although some use it for that. It's just a very small niche car. The 06 altima starts at $17k and is pretty pimped out for $30k... Nice leather, climate control, NAV, NICE stereo (bumps!) Lots of room in the back seats, intelligent (proximity sensing) keys, push-button start. I was checking one out in the showroom while waiting for my dealer to search for an 07 GT. I was almost swayed for a second... Then I snapped out of it! |
You can check out the actual sales figures for Dec, 2006 here:
http://www.nissannews.com/corporate/...03030617.shtml The CYTD (Current Year To Date) gives you the 2006 totals. The Z is an impractical sports car. If anybody expected it to be Nissan's highest selling vehicle or anything other than last place, you need a reality check of some sort. :icon11: |

Very obvious when viisiting a dealer. Most around me still have a bunch of 06s left. Cool with me... less on the road to take away from my attention :)

I'm not sure about you guys but a Z is the last vehicle I want to see around every corner. |

I was thinking that the new Altima's seem to be competing more with the Maxima or even a G35. I don't see it competeing with a Z. They're just too different.
|
Good!! I hope they sell even less! Just not so few they cut the line...
