I know we arent supposed to get our hopes up, but I am hoping that our Z's will arrive ahead of schedule in late August.

I have been hearing a lot of people in various Boxster and TT groups really hate on the Z and criticize it because its not expensive enough or doesnt carry the same badge as a Porsche or Audi.

I cant wait to get this car so their jaws can drop when i fly by them, with an extra $20k in my pocket. But heck at least they will still have their "class" when they are eating 350Z dust.


Someone should really do a study on cars and eltisit mentality because it appears to seriously affect many people who feel threatened when a new auto comes on the market that threatens their "prestige."

Its kind of like new competition arriving amongst a pack of lions.
The older established lions get all fidgety and become nervous .. just as many in the Boxster / Audi groups do in my experience.


(PS. I know that all Porsche / Audi / etc.. members do not all act like this .. and even people on this forum seem to hate it when the Z is compared to a RSX or a Eclipse (althoughi think the Z vs RSX-S / Eclipse argument is moot since the performance of the Z absolutely blows those cars away)

Anyways , sorry for the stream of conciousness but i wanted to get my thoughts out , even if they are not completely coherent.

I agree completely. It is so stupid that people with other cars are getting all nervous and have to try to bash the Z. I don't go onto TT or Porsche sites to bash their cars (probably because they are both nice cars). I am all for everyone being able to voice their opinions - its what makes this country great - but to bash a car just because it is not the one you own, and because everyone is touting it as a "Boxster killer" is no reason for them to get all bent out of shape. Like the car you have, and accept the other cars for what they are - something different. After all, do you want the Z (or Boxster, TT, or whatever) to be something that everyone loves and has to have? I for one don't want to see a new Z in every garage or driveway - it takes away from the pleasure of owning something a little more unique. Lets let the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Ford Taurus continue their stranglehold on the "dime a dozen" cars on our roads.....

this is only my opinion but i don't really consider audi as a "successful" historical famous brand like the porsche or mercedes. Rather i'm still holding the thought like a few years ago, that audi is just audi, i wouldn't pay the mercedes or porsche's price to only buy an audi, and i still think it's not worth it. just my opinion, don't flame pls.

don't forget the M3 owners. These are the ones that I'm after.

Just because the M3 can beat the Z by a half second in the 1/4, doesen't mean M3 owners are gonna be smiling. It seems the M3 likes to be thought of as the inexpencive 911 alternative and the Z is going to be the inexpencive M3 alternitive. It really burns them up. That CAR magazine review is like icing on the cake because it didn't come from a Z forum, but an impartial third party.

Anyway, the 911 looks down on the M3 because it is not a sports car or has less heratige, or is less expencive.

Just watch out, just as we are feeling smug and secure because we are a Boxster S killer, along comes a STI/EVO and smokes us. We just turn around and give them the standard audi reply: "look at that crapy interior, It has no soul, is's a subaru/mitsubishi for gods sake, etc..."

And the world just keeps on turning.

Evo is going to be a killer IMHO but it's still and always will be one ugly sucker!

i heard when the boxster came out, the 911 guys were bashing the boxster calling it slow and crappy and it was for people who couldnt afford a real car. HA! Now some boxster guys are talking smack to us Z guys. AND, Im sure there are some guys who bash audi guys for not owning a pagani or something.

...the point is this. When someone pays more for a car they are going to tout the things that are better and turn their nose up at the things that arent. Keep in mind how much bashing we do on stangs and birds.

bashing a cheaper car is definetley a male thing. Its part of our programming...bash anything to show that you are more "fit" for spreading your seed:rolleyes:

I remember owning an Audi, a 10 year old sedan, it was my first car in high school. It was a P.O.S. Since then I haven't seen the value in the Audi badge. That said, I still considered the TT before buying my Z, but I was turned off by its looks, a little too feminine for me. I have to admit though, the interior of the TT is sweet.

As for the M3, I tought about that one too but:
1. I can buy 2 Z's for that outrageous price, and
2. 90% of people couldn't pick the M3 out of a line up of 325's and 330's. And where I live, the word best describing the 3 series is ubiquitous.

Well that's a matter of preference. I personally really like the look of both the evo and the sti. But the evo is going to be like 37k and i dont believe the sti will be arriving for quite some time.

Oh, and did i forget to mention that these cars will have to be "detuned" for emission standards.:D People arent going to be getting the Euro or J-spec cars that they dream of.
