How bad are the Z's blind spots and rear window visibility?
I heard from a few people they were terrible, and from some others that it wasnt bad...
|
No worse than most cars IMO
|
I dont think its that bad. Take one for a drive and see for yourself.
|
Yeah Im going to drive one tomorrow. Just thought I'd get a little insight.
|
They're bad, but I have no prob since I added the little concave mirrors to the sides

Pretty bad compared to other cars I have driven. The rear view is limited, but the Lexus IS350 I drove prior had a big ass so rear view was also limited. The worst aspect is the blind spots, changing lanes has me double check the sideview mirrors for blind spot. Backing out is also a bit of an issue with it on the pasenger side as basically the chair blocks any side view you can have. Either way, with careful looking and slow reverses, it's a negative apsect of the car that can be overlooked. Those used to very small sports cars would probably be used to it, but if you're coming from a sports sedan or just a 4 door/SUV period, you will soon realize all the safe angles and views you had before are non-existent in the Z.

Once you get over 6 ft tall the rearview mirror and the rear brace tend to get in the way but you get used to it.
|
Franco: And now my friend, the first-a rule of Italian driving.
[Franco rips off his rear-view mirror and throws it out of the car] Franco: What's-a behind me is not important. |
The only blind spot for me is the not being able to see outside the passenger side quarter panel when the seat is in a certain spot.

how bad? I think worse than most car...but you learn to adapt...just learn how to use your side mirrors and make sure they're stretched to the farthest....I set mine to where I would have to move my head just a little just to see the slightest edge of the car, on both side...

I think getting rid of the auto dim would help with that blind spot. I know they make after market, basic mirrors but im looking something more oem looking.

They are bad, but I still love the car!! you just need to get used to it.

+1...they are there, but not enough to hate the car or anything. I will say, that when I first started driving my Z, merging/exiting to the right was pretty tricky and required a few double takes. I'll just end with that it is bad enough for me to consider getting one of those ugly & cheesy round mirrors to put on my passenger-side quarter view mirror...

Adjust your mirrors right (95% of people do not) and you'll have nothing to worry about. I've had no issues whatsoever.
|
You get used to it. When I first drove the Z it was definitely the lowest-visibility car I've ever been in. But that wasn't going to stop me from buying it.
Feels normal now. When I think about it though, I use my eyes directly a lot more when looking out the side/back. And I use my drivers side mirror for my rearview quite often. |
