Salvaged/Reconstructed Titles on Z's
 

curious about what other owners think about Z's with salvaged or reconstructed titles for whatever reason. i know its never a good thing when you could shell out the extra 5grand for a better one. but what about if it were to be a shop car with alot of down time. im just wondering cause i see all these good deals out there for like 04's asking 12grand. state your opinions. thanks.

If you are a professional buyer, and know what you are getting into, a salvage car may be a good idea. For a novice , its a deal to stay away from. Far away.

R title cars are always though ones to sell too, I'd say that would be especially true for a sports car.

I would prefer a new fully loaded twelve or so thousand dollar car, as opposed to thirty thousand one with a "few concerns." That's me however...

yea im just curious cause i see so many of them for sale. i guess it just takes time to get that right one.

Probably the biggest downside to a salvaged car is that you have absolutely no warranty at all.

The only way I could see buying one was to build a race car or something along those lines.

General problem with salvaged Z's is the fact that because they have a higher MSRP than lower end cars, you will typically only find them with a lot of damage on them.

But, take something like a Ford Ranger that has been around for awhile, it's very easy and cheap to find one. I just bought a 2002 Ranger with 53k miles for a daily driver. Got it at the auction for $1,800, should cost around $2,500 with all repairs completed and certain modifications made.

I've purchased 4 rebuilt cars on E Bay and never got a bad one. I have always driven them first. The latest is a 2005 Anniversary 350Z I bought about 6 months ago with 19k, navagation 6 sp and all new tires. Runs like a gem and I paid $18.5k. Only an expert could tell it has been wrecked. Insurance companies will classify a car salvage rather than put up with a owner's complaint. Some will replace a new car in the first 12 months if it is wrecked.

I got my 03 Z as a salvage for 16k. The engine and chassis wasn't touched at all during the accident, so it was really just body work that got repaired. Car has about 50,000 miles on it now and it runs strong. I've got mods done too and haven't has a single problem with it. You should always run a carfax on any salvage you're buying though, just to be safe. Good luck!

Also remember, if a car is ever stolen it automatically gets a salvage title, even if the lil bastards didnt have time to do anything to it.

dude what concequences you talking about??? .... every car that i owned was a salvage title.. and i buy them for cheap and sell them for okay price fast... nothing wrong with it... i see more people having problems with their dealer bought cars so they always give them away to some shops to fix... you guys are noobs when it comes to rebuilding cars... and unless you're lazy and cant fix the car properly then i guess it works...... i bought my Z for 11k it its a 06 GT z with 6k miles on the engine... fixed it and have no problem whats so ever cause body is the only thing that was damaged and some minor suspension parts... but still easy fix and now car runs and drives as good as your 40k Z....

ohh and yeah... i went dealer pretended that i wanted to trade my Z for the new Altima 2 door and they ran the trade in value knowing it was a rebuilt and they still issued me a $24,300 for it .... =D ..... i had my second thoughts but hey i love this car and will never give it away..... =D

Once a new car that has been in a wreck like the Z for example and the insurance desides to total it and someone buys it at in action and fixes it. Sure any car can be fixed, But it will never be the same. Then you got to deal with any hidden problems that pop up. And once you put it on a lift you can tell if the unibody frame has been pulled. My point is a wrecked or rebuilt car is never going to be the same no matter how good the bodyshop is. So the lesson for today is salvage/rebuilt=trash.:icon9:

$24,300 for a rebuilt car ahh maybe that guy must have smoked some crack. An 06 with a rebuilt title is worth half of that.

+1 to that. Right now there's a thread in the Suspension forum by somebody who is having problems getting a previously wrecked Z aligned properly. Because of the limited ability to adjust the OEM suspension, a wrecked Z can be impossible to bring back into spec.

The only way I would buy a R-Title (Salvage) car is if I were gonna keep it forever, you will have a very very hard time selling that car if you ever want or need to.

Wrong! If the car never changes hands there is no title work required; maybe if the insurance company paid you off and then the car was found, but otherwise, uh-uh.

i bought mine damaged, only $1500 worth of body parts and i fixed it myself.. paid very little for it and it has a clean title :)
