Horrible resale value?

Did anyone notice the huge depreciation these cars have been hit with in the past 6 months? Many are asking in the mid teens for 03-05 models and even then they are not selling that easily.

Has nissan produced way too many of these cars or have people just lost interest in them?

Comparing similar year and mileage to honda s2000 and its clear that they hold their value way better than our cars yet were almost the same price brand new.

rant over...

SuperBlack350z 02-10-2008 08:40 PM

yup, depreciation has gotten pretty bad. I wish i would of waited a year..lol.

Willie 02-10-2008 08:41 PM

Depreciation seems to be on par with most makes. The mid teen ones are ragged out, high miles, or base models for the most part.

Come up to Canada and see our prices. $28 - $42k for a 2004-2006

damn how many miles do you have like 2k? lol

Kinraze 02-10-2008 09:40 PM

Doesn't surprise me. Economy has been tanking lately. I imagine the resales values of cars that get hit the worst would be sports cars.

KManZ 02-11-2008 03:37 AM

New model is coming out soon, resale of old model plunges. S2000 is of more limited production than the Z, doesn't come in auto.

Can you show me a quote from a credible source stating that 350Z depreciation is horrible? Thanks.

Kuruma-san 02-11-2008 04:47 AM

check kbb.com

I have had the hardest time ever selling this car. It was easier selling my 4 cyl. jeep. Its a auto Touring and has 67.5k miles, but its an 03 with a build date of 10/02 so its not like its driven more than normal. ~14k is the best I can get since its an auto, and even then I'm having trouble getting people to commit. Had serious interest at 12k, but then more people started coming around.

Problems I am blaming this on:

1. Auto
2. Economy
3. Wintertime

But, I can't afford to wait, so it has to go now.

iknowitsfast 02-11-2008 06:23 AM

When I traded my Z in (which I got back, long story) they only gave me 13k for it. They had it on sale on their site for 15k!! I blame it on winter, two seater, not practical, RWD, 2003 model with 62k miles.

Quick sale on any vehicle you will have to price below book. What I see is that the resale value of the 350Z did take a hit with the coming of another year and rumour of totally new vehicle of 370Z. The prices did drop my 05 Touring cost me $23k 12k miles on it, now a year later near 28k I'm seeing $19k-$18K. What I've notice is that high mileage 350Zs are still priced in $16-$14k with 67k - 80k miles on them.

To make things clear a 07 Chevy Cobalt prices $13950, 07 Chrysler 300 v6 $18,999, 06 RX-8 $17,950, 05 Corvette is $38,540, 04 350ZR auto **$24,650 40k miles**, 05 350z GT $25,599 auto 24K, 06 350Z 8K 6sp $23,999, 98 Porsche Boxster $15,900, 99 911 cabriolet $29,000, 04 Mustang 49k $9,995, 06 Mustang Gt $17,999. I found no listing for the Honda S2000 in the entire paper.

So being somewhere between a use 05 Corvette Z06 and 1 year old Chrysler Luxury car is not bad for a 4-5 year old car. Thank God you're not driving a 1-2 year Rx-8 $33k now costing $17-$16k, thats almost half.

Of course it would be good to hold value like a Porsche.

High Gas, winter time and tax season maybe some of the reason for depreciation. A 05 GT maxed out 350Z auto for $25k lost $9k in 3 years not bad.

20k..i think i did the kbb at 15k.

skn5002 02-11-2008 06:33 AM

When I bought my Z, I made sure my intentions were not to sell it again since I knew I would never get back what I paid for it. I am sure I wouldn't be able to get anything close to what I paid for.

PrevWon 02-11-2008 06:37 AM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like they hold their value better than the G35.

S2K vehicle prices aren't that good either.

considering what they MSRP for it is sad to see them available for low 20's.

the Z got hit harder because the 07 got an upgraded engine and is not much more than the older one, while the S2k has remained unchanged and hasn't sold as many units.

I see the G35 hit the hardest... they held thier value really well until recently. G37c I guess?
