HELP *after winter storage car won't rev
I tried a search, after leaving the car in an unheated garage all winter the car won't rev past 2800 rpm, it doesn't throw a code or check engine light so i'm thinking its not getting air, either the computer is limiting the throttle, the servo for the throttle is stuck etc best guesses
anything like this ever happened to anyone before? any suggestions? 03 touring with 12k thanks, zwarbyt |
did you run the car at all the whole time?....if not did you use stabile??

didn't do any fuel addatives... ran the car once or twice over the winter but didn rev it at all |
Yikes, Bump to top for help**
|
you probably should of added some fuel additive
|
I think you've just put too many miles on the car...
but seriously, what happens when you try to rev it? Is it a hard stop at 2800 or does it have trouble getting there at all? |
Not sure if its related, but I, and a few other members have had their car do that. My car did it randomly one day, its my DD so no winter storage. 2500 rpm though, specificly. My car was acting like I was hitting a rev limiter. I created a thread about it, where someone else posted a link to their thread about it... as far as I could tell there is no understanding, or fix as of yet for this issue. My car only did it once, I shut my car off after driving too the movie store, rented a movie, and it fired up normally and hasnt done it since.
Is your car idleing a little high? Is your car bouncing off 2800? (those were my symptoms) **https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....+map+sensor%3F |
yep thats it, it hits a wall like its cutting throttle
no codes |
WEIRD... Sorry can't help you out bud.. :(
|
Have you installed an aftermarket intake because when I installed my intake I didn't position the MAF sensor properly and when the engine buckles it wore through the wires. I had the same symptoms with that it acted like it was hitting the rev limiter and wouldn't go above 2800 as well. All I have to do was reposition the MAF sensor and taped the wires with electrical tape and haven't had a problem since.

check your oil as well
|
Check all fluids, then try resetting the ecu (disconnect battery negative terminal for 20 minutes).
Check to make sure no animals crawled into your intake and built a nest that's restricting airflow. |

Its not an oil issue nor a stabil issue.
Ive let cars sit for a year with no additives and they fired right up. Check your connections and check to make sure theres nothing in your air boxes. If all looks well reset the ECU and try it again |
Did you keep the battery hooked up? If so, then definatley do the battery reset like Silverstone-Z mentioned.
Going forward, definatley use Stabil.....regular gas has preservatives optimized for 3 months. |
My car is FI and when i lean out on a hard run my car does exactly what you say. It sounds like a rev limiter, my car is also stored over the winter. Usually I have to shut the car for a few minutes and restart and if that doesnt work then i have to dissconnect the battery. its def a comp related prob i would say although it could be a faulty sensor thats telling the comp to go into that mode. good luck

My guess would be the MAF is a little dirty, you can remove the MAF and hit it with some air but just be very careful with it they are very finicky, I had alot of MAF problems with my Maxima's.
|
It probably is the MAF. The other day I took off my intake to do some cleaning. I forgot to plug the MAF sensor back on and the car wouldn't go over 2800 rpms and the CEL came on. From the looks of how you discribed it, seems like thats the symptom of the MAF sensor.
