RxO - how many 350z's to be produced ?

RxO word is that Nissan will be building 5000 Z cars a month.
Will this continue into the year 2003 or does the 30k Z cars a year still stand?

The number being thrown around is 43,000 worldwide. How the final allocation goes is anybodys guess. Initial 'internal' allocation numbers for NNA were much lower than the numbers quoted above, but may have been revised upward. I am sure there will be plenty to go around.

I was speaking with the sales manager at my dealer today and he said only 12,000 this year, then 18,000 the next two. Nissan is supposedly scaling back production after this. I'm not sure if that is worldwide or just here in the US. Who knows what to believe?

12000 seems unlikely unless that does not include the 7800 pre-orders. Even without the 7800 pre-orders that is only about 20K for the U.S. I know Nissan's original plans were to sell 30K in the US the first year and then 20K per year after that. Cutting back from 20K to 18K in successive years seems within the realm of possibility, but it seems unlikely to me that they will cut back the first year from 30K to 20K, especially considering the success of the pre-order program. Nissan's original goal for the pre-orders was 7000.

robbyn,

Unfortunately the pre-order program, was not a real success in Nissan's eyes. Too much bad publicity, dealers bad mouthing NNA and Nissan Japan, and according to a friend of mine at NNA, they did not sell out all 7500 pre-orders.

Last I heard, the numbers for production of the Z thru 2006 and these are most likely world wide.

30K - 2004
50K - 2005
50K - 2006

The volume at 50K would put the current factory lines for the Z at about 85% of capacity, which is usually the break even point for car manufacturers to maximize their profit vs cost.

do not rely on a dealer for info like this, it doesn't matter if it's the sales manager, general manager, owner, salesman whatever, 99.9999% of them don't know their ass from their elbow.

I translated some Japanese news articles using babelfish, and they were are reporting 42,000. Interesting how they worded it: 40 ten thousands and 2 thousands.

Wouldn't 40 ten thousands be 400,000? Just wondering.
