Default Is this Z safe??

Hey guys,
Thinking about picking up an 04 Z.
It's pretty basic.. 2004 Touring, Gray/Black, stock.

I ran a Carfax, and while it all checked out clear, it was built in 11/03...
So as I understand, that's the older suspension.
Not a big worry.. I plan on changing the suspension (just basic.. springs/shocks/front SPC).

It has 21K miles, and the tires were recently replaced. Is that a sign of premature wear/feathering?

I haven't test driven it yet.. but I'm pretty worried about the windows and transmission after reading the forums for a while.

Not sure what else to ask or look for?

the windows are easy and cheap to replace the motors/regulator.

Feathering, just get an alignment.

tranny? Synchros has gone bad on all year Zs even the new revised tranny.

Every car will have their problems. I don't think Z has major problems at all.

What`s the deal with the weak synchros in the Z manual trannies???? I`m going to be on my fourth tranny in my Z32 (car has only 59k miles) and every time it`s a 1st to 2nd gear grind. Rest of the gears shift smooth as silk. I`ve already had 2 of the revised Z32 trannies and they still have the classic gear crunch, brand new right out of the box. I`m guessing the same manufacturer makes the Z32 and Z33 manual trannies because our cars both have the same tranny problems. I`m milking the warranty on my current tranny and then will get it replaced again right before it runs out (Nissan dealer here actually told me to do that).

hmm... maybe Z drivers just really really suck at shifting?

Apart from tire feathering, some drivers' tires wear twice as fast as others.
I know of the old P040 tires that have gone 30,000 miles and others done by 15,000. Just perhaps the way the car is driven could have something(not all) to do with tires, clutch and tranny.

There is nothing unusual about needing to repalce the tires at 21K, even on later models that did not have feathering problems.

My '06 has 24K, and I just ordered a new set. I really should have replaced them 2-3,000 miles earlier.

Correct - That's normal for replacing the tires. But who knows if this is his first or second time? Also, this my smallest concern as I plan on getting new suspension and alignment to fix it.

But the windows seem to be hit and miss - and even people who replaced their motors end up doing it again and again...
Transmission.. no idea

Thanks for the input!

are those the original tires on that car? did the 03-05 come with potenza's? because a common problem that we 06+ owners have is that our stock tires wear extremely fast and i believe it too because mine were worn down pretty bad at just 11k but i got new wheels/tires so i dont have to worry abotu that now.

^ Ah. Yes, I think the original tires were just replaced.

However.. You might have to worry about it soon again because your swap didn't "cure" the problem. I think you need a new alignment.

I guess the synchros and window motors are the only thing holding me back from this. But there is no definitive fix, or model, that has these problems... No idea what to look for, and I don't feel like taking a big gamble with that.

ask for service receipts. better yet ask him to call or go down to the dealer where the service was performed and have them reprint the service history.

Solution: An AT!!! Flawless, PLUS 274ft/lbs of torque!--vs. 260 in the MT mo-
dels! My '04 Touring Coupe's FINE, so far (bought in Feb. 8th., with 13k on it,
for $22k). NO feathering issues. Does have the driver's side power w. problem,
the hatch door strut(s) FAILure, and the gas latch release thing. None of these are big issues--won't leave me stranded, THAT'S for sure!!!
