How's this for Dealer treatment

I called my dealer today to put in my first request that the front license bracket NOT be installed. (I plan a few more calls in the next few weeks to be sure they get the message). The manager understood my concern and is going to contact the other pre-order folks to ask them if they want it installed or not.

Anyway, I talked with the sales manager, and he gave me the run down of what they are going to do with the cars. They will be driven directly to the "prep" area by the inventory manager. There will be minimum prep and inspection done. All owners will be contacted to ask them if they want to be present during this process. No gas will be put in the car unless the customer requests it. All others will be given a chit for a free tank of gas down the street. After prep is completed, the cars will be parked in the dealer's secure lot with Nissan covers on them! There they will stay until the owners pick them up. No one will be allowed to see, sit in, or drive these cars beyond the above mentioned.

This was exactly what I was going to ask for (except for the covers, I wasn't going to let the car be there long enough), and the dealer provided it with no prompting. They even offered to take some dig pics of the car on the truck and the unloading (at my request).

So not all dealers are trolls. Mine has been very quiet and honest about their lack of information, but as the time gets near, they are coming through.

BTW, this is Mossy Nissan in Escondido, CA.

My only problem with them was that they wanted 10% down where everyone else only wanted $1000 down.. and I couldn't afford to hand over $3000 at the time.

Alan,

What are the odds of the El Cajon location getting the word and giving us the same courtesy?

Hopefully better than my odds of winning the Lotto tonight!!

Gibbsy1 -
You never get what you don't ask for. I was going to ask for everything they are offering, I just don't have to now. Call them up and ask them for this courtesy. The worst thing that will happen is they will say no. Tell them you want to work with them, and that you are willing to show up as soon as you hear about the car being there so they don't have to wait around for your.

It is only an impression, but I got the feeling that the treatment was decided at a higher level than the dealership. Maybe its more of a corporate decision. It NEVER hurts to ask. You could also explain that this is what Escondido is doing to try to get the "sibling" rivalry going.

XtremeFlyer - Yes, when I showed up, they wanted 10% down. I had heard that $1,000 was more common, so I told them that is what I wanted to do and said that was what a lot of dealers were doing. I have purchased 4 cars from Mossy over the past 12 years, which might have had something to do with it, but the dealership manager called Mr Mossy and got approval. My down was $1,000. Like I said, you never get what you don't ask for.

my dealer doesnt install front plates on ANY of their cars and they also said that they would include me in anything i wanted regarding prep after the car is unloaded.

Idea for pre-order appreciationd:
Free Car cover

sounds like a good dealer and they're treating you real nice, however, i'd think that having bought 4 cars from them had nothing to do with it, i mean how would the guy even know?

sounds like i'll give them a shot, how far is that from orange county area? did they give it to you for msrp or less if you don't mind me asking?

Dealer treatment

Well I'm on both sides of this one I was the first one to order a Z at King Windward Nissan in Hawaii. I'm also the GSM of the dealership. No it's not my demo it's going to be my car.( I asked my wife to pick the color (I'm color blind) she looked at the choices and said Daytona Blue, everybody that has seen it here says it's the best choice.) Anyway we asked for and got $350.00
deposits on the preorders we were allocated, we sold them all at MSRP. On Aug 21 we will deliver all nine preorders at 2:00pm. The local Z club will help us with a display of classic Z's sitting opposite the new cars ready for delivery. The preorder customers will get floor mats from our distributor Nissan Motors of Hawaii
as well as a copy of "Lust then Love". We have bought Z luggage bags for each owner and all of our employees will be given a Z baseball cap for the occasion. We are going to make an event of this. We are small enough to pull this off but have enough cars that it should be something special. The customers will also have their name engraved on the center console "built especially for".
P.S. I was allowed to test drive one yesterday and the car is everything you all expect and then some.

Wow, now that's customer service!

I talked to the inventory control manager of my dealership the other day, and I was pleased to hear they will be very careful with our Zs also. He said that the only people they will allow to touch our cars will be the techs prepping them, and that they will allow us to be present for the entire process. My dealer also bought all pre-order customers a book on the history of the Z. It is a shame that more people haven't had as good an experience with their dealers as we have had, it made the pre-order process fairly enjoyable, and it made the wait even more worth it.
