Default 1st Road trip...

I'm planning on taking my Z on a road trip when I get it. I remember reading somewhere that there is a book with 20 or 30 best roads to drive on.

Does anyone know the actual name of the book?

thanks

Not sure about the book, but this site has a great catalog if driving roads in CA.
Just remember to break your new Z in properly before you start flying around those backroads.

Thumbs up

Excellent link

Visited a friend in Squaw Valley a few years ago, and took a great day trip to Lotus, CA. ( yah, i be a Lotus fan). F**king awsome roads. Living in Chicago now, and the roads here suck. I'm definitally planning a Road Trip west next summer, after June, as too many of the Great roads are still closed any earlier due to snow. S**t, I was in the first group of cars to drive "Going to the Sun" highway in the middle of June! (think Glacier, MT)

PS sold my '67 Lotus to buy an '88 Honda Hurricane, as the Lotus was too f**king slow in the North Georgia mountains.

In the meantime, I'll do my break-in miles on the Kettle Mouraine Scenic Highway in Beautiful Wisconsin.

Miss the Bike

Miss the Lotus

But the Z be coming

EnthuZ,

The roads do suck here. I'll follow you up to Wisconsin when we get our cars

I have to be in a wedding in Connecticut the end of August. I'm hoping to get the car by then to drive out.

Frank

Since I see you got the nav, I'll follow You

I lived in Wilton, way back, as a 10 year old kid, and I think that was when I fell in love with Sports Cars. Dad took me up to Thompsonville, CT to a race in about 1963. Great roads out there!

SCCA was still based in Westport back then.

EnthuZ,

We lived near Hartford, CT when I was kid. I was too young to have my licence then, but the roads are awesome. I remember crusing around with my dad in his '76 280Z.

What part of Chicago are you from? We might have to getting our Chicago chapter of the my350z club going.

PS- I know a lawyer in Milwaukee that can get any Wisconsin speeding ticket reduced to a non-moving violation He once got a ticket for 30 mph over reduced to failure to use proper hand signal.

Okay, I feel silly asking, but here goes. How do you 'break' the car in properly? Please don't tell me I have to keep it under 65mph for 1000 miles!!!

There are plenty of good places around the DFW metroplex. Finding them is half the fun. I have a few highways in mind that would be alot of fun to cruise late at night too.

I'll dig up that lawyers name for our first road trip to Wisconsin

A few people in my office have started a pool to guess how long it will take me to get a ticket in the 350Z. Most of them guess that it will soon after I leave the dealer

I'm going up the CT coast on the 95.

Either that or down FDR drive in Manhattan. The part when you go under the Hospital for Special Surgery is awesome.

Buy that Lawyer friend a beer! I could have used him a bunch of times!!!! I have lots of "Cruising Cheese Head Land" stories. I was even banned from driving there as my Wisconsin points exceeded their max.

Anyone know when "Lower Wacker Drive" re-opens? Think Blues Brothers. I drove it the last night it was open before re-construction on my way to House of Blues. Not sure who I saw, but I'm thinking it was The Fabulious Thunderbirds.

As to the break in question......just don't hold the RPM's steady for long, hold it to 4000 RPM for about 500 miles, increase max RPM's in 1000 incriments every 500 miles. Yah, I know it won't be easy, so an OCCASIONIAL blast to redline in lower gears is OK, but ONLY on a fully warmed engine. Since we should be getting about 80% max torque below 3000 RPM, I don't anticipate TOO much frustration.

Except for the first 50 miles drive it as you would every day. Been doing that with all my new cars and all have been fine and ran great!

That first 50 is the key, low loads and low RPM shifts.

That's how I'll break in mine!

I'm not sure when Lower Wacker reopens. I was down there on Wednesday and it was still pretty torn up.

Maybe we can stop by Bob's Country Bunker on our Wisconsin trip
