Sold the Z, after two years.

I normally wouldn't make a topic about this because it's usually used as bait by people who bought someone newer or better so they can say, "Yea I'm so over the Z, guys", (btw I didn't) but the transaction was very memorable.

I met the guy at the bank I sold it to (ebay) because I owed on it, and he showed up with his kid. I didn't really think anything of it, until he informed me that the car was for his 13 year old kid, who gets his permit in a year and a half. He even had 20" rims with a 5" lip waiting for it at home. What a lucky kid.

Anyways, if anyone cares, I wanted a car bought outright, because I plan on buying a house and moving soon, so I wanted no bills and my credit looking good. Then I'm coming right back into the Z world (woot!), and doing it all right this time, (aka, not wasting $ on N/A mods). The car of choice was something cheap, but I could also have fun with: a 1990 Eclipse GSX AWD turbo. I will have some pics of it once it gets pretty enough to show. Needs a paint-job bad but the interior is mint.

you can get your permit when you're 14?? holy crap
The kid might not even be able to reach the pedals....

Year and a half, he was 13 and a half. So, 15.

Well, at least the early year turbo eclipses are still pretty bad ass cars. I've had a few friends who owned them. Quick, fun, and all of that.

Sorry you had to sell your Z. And how weird would it be to think that it was going to a 13 year old. I hope the father is holding the keys over the kids head saying 'you dont get it unless you do well in school' or something along those lines. (Good incentive if I say so myself!.. perhaps I would have done better if I was in that situation:icon44: )

Great looking Z though. Good luck on the house purchase

Good luck on the house buy. I had a GSX and that thing was in the shop every week, beware of the tranny those things worse than the lakers in the finals. I did love the speed of the GSX though and when my turbo blew I got a greddy upgrade kit which pushed around 400 hp to the wheels @ 22psi with a couple extra upgrades, but I was also getting around 12 mpg. Hurry up and get a Z back quick.

MustacheBandit 06-27-2008 08:22 AM

You will be back! :)

vnarang 06-27-2008 08:24 AM

Uhh, I thought you have to be 15 and a half to get your permit? That's how it is in Cali anyways, I thought it'd be the same everywhere.

Bumpinjeep 06-27-2008 09:42 AM

Yeah you'll be back as soon as you get your house.

thats pretty unreliable

Wow. Congrats on the sale and such.

To be honest, I'd have to seriously consider knocking the father out and snatching the keys back from him after I learned it was for a 15 year old. Bad parenting for the lose.

j.arnaldo 06-27-2008 11:26 AM

You WILL be back!

Xelement! 06-27-2008 11:30 AM

Congrats on your sale. But it sucks to see another Z being "given" to a kid. I would have slapped the parent myself too!

pimpin714style 06-27-2008 11:32 AM

dam i cant even call dibs on the wheels cause you know hes gonna curb the shiiiet outta them.

Nukiz0r 06-27-2008 11:52 AM

Yeup, I wouldnt call dibs on anything. Lets wait to see whats left after the kid totals it racing and trying to be like Nick Hogan.

Seriously man, I couldn't with a clear conscience, sell my Z knowing its going to a kid who is likely going to kill himself in it. Not to mention just having a chance to verbally slap a POS parent with some common sense by yanking the keys out of his hands.

I already knew I'd be coming back, it's just a matter of how soon.

@ the GSX peoples: I've learned that the .02 second time you save by rough-housing the tranny isn't worth it, so I'm very easy on the gears, and launching it out of the question, hah.

My plans for it are pretty basic. Replace a lot of interior bezels and pieces, paint-job, water pump, belts, etc... Then work up to monitoring tools like boost gauge and apexi SAFC combined with a 3" Maf w/ translator for best flow. Not sure if I want to be a ricer a vent the BOV, since it's a DD and that would get annoying. If I really start digging the car, it'll probably get a good 3" turbo-back, some more PSI, and hard intercooler/intake piping.

Yea, I already know mine needs new struts, rotors, and hatch springs. Any reason why the hood and hatch weigh 1,200 lbs?
