What's the best thing to do in an Ice or Snow Storm...

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to ask a quick question. My car is unfortunatly outside and not in the garage. Its a shame, I know. Being in the Northeast there are some pretty nasty storms. We just had an ice storm today and I just took a look at my car and there is frozen rain all over the car. My question is, what is the best thing to do for my paint when these things happen (ice and snow storms)? Do I just let it melt as it is? I am in fear of damaging my paint and polished lips on my rims. I would put the car away for the season but I drive it daily except for very bad weather and I have yet to get a car cover.

Any help is appreciated,
Dan

Don't worry about it. Ice and snow won't hurt your paint.

I don't think you have something to worry unless you have salt and crap all over your car. Modern vehicles are pretty rust-proof.

Yea thanks man, that makes me feel better, I mean I froze my ass off washing it about 5 days before this storm. It was completly clean before this ice storm.

If you can't afford a stock cover. Get an oversized tarp and lay a sheet over the car before the tarp. $20's and done.

Every time I see a Z outside a garage I cringe my teeth, especially if it is covered with ice.

its a 30k car, get over it

There's protecting ones investment and there anal bs.
Some of you act like this thing is a porsche.

Snow and ice don't hurt anything. It's all in how you remove the debree that counts.

Agree... too many people here acting like it's a Ferarri... I LOVE my Z, it's a wonderful sports car for the money- best value on the road by far. BUT if it gets too many miles or something gets messed up on it I will just sell it and buy another, it's not a rare collectable or anything.

I can see the heavily modded guys would freak about thier car being subjected to the elements since they have a lot of money tied up in the car, generally when people do heavy modding though they are fully aware the investment will not be fully recovered at time of sale. I tend to keep my car stock, for the most part, so when I need to trade it for a newer one it won't be a hard decision.

I believe that the better care that you take of your car the better the car will perform in any aspect for you.

If i dont wash and keep my Z nice and clean and well maintained it's like the thing gets in a mood and just does not want to perform the way i want it to.

But if i treat it good then all of a sudden it's like ready to go to the damn moon. Its weird but its as if it has a soul. I might just be saying this cause im a mechanic, but for me it's the truth.

Covering the car will protect it for a short time of use, but dont use a cover for long periods of time, and take it off when you can. No matter how GOOD the cover states to be moisture will still be somewhere under it and create those under paint rusting problems wherever slight chips are. If you have a driveway or a good spot with room you could make a collapsible short time use tent, or a car tent itself.

so its bad just because some people like to take care of their car, and keep it away from the elements like salt and sand and in doing so keeping it in better shape than someone who drives their car all year round? Some people just care more about their car than other people regarless of how much it costs.

VQpoweredZ Dec 20, 2008 09:08 AM

To everybody that is saying, its a 30k car and get over it... that might be ok for you, but in this time of economic crisis is it really going to be that easy for you to sell and buy a new car?

0jiggy0- If 30k is nothing to you, why dont you buy a higher end sports car and why be messing around with a 350z, an entry level sports car. For me being a younger member of this 350z forum, I tend to think 30k is alot of money. And I intend to not disregard my car and let it get **** on because it's only 30k. I will do everything I can to keep it nice and in good condition. After all, why would you buy a nice car if you didn't intend to take care of it.

VQpoweredZ Dec 20, 2008 09:15 AM

Also 0jiggy0 your comment seems very contradicting when I went back and looked at your previous threads and you said,

"My last car was a shitbox non-turbo 99 spyder eclipse so this car is a monster jump for me. I love the sound, the stock looks, rims, everything Anyway im sure you guys have heard us new guys say this a million times, but I really love this freaking car. Well here she is."

Really seems like you should just "get over" just a 30k car, especially because your last car was just as nice...

The best thing to do in a winter storm is...play hide the salami, or barring that...FAP.
