it looks like it'd rest a lot more comfortably in my hand (ive driven my friends auto touring, and the shifter just feels awkward). is there a button on it to shift, or do you push the whole thing down or what?

edit: eh... the more i look at it i dont like it, it looks really unnecessarily tall and big like most other autos..... maybe it can be shortened?

ragtopz Sep 6, 2003 01:36 PM

there is a button in the front. the height seems about right and the knob fits nicely in the hand. my only complaint is that when you shift it into the manual mode it is angled uncomfortably to the right.

gary

Looks exactly like a g35 shifter.

JonsilvZ Sep 6, 2003 04:53 PM

I like my shifter better. Has more leather all around. It looks longer?

havabooz Sep 6, 2003 06:12 PM

anyway..im sensing that the 2005's will have a body change

not tht they need it....maybe a factory front spoiler

or a diff wing

who knows

better not be nicer than the 2003s:D

thank god for mods

havabooz Sep 6, 2003 06:13 PM

Are you saying it's fake? It looks right to me. The shifter looks just like the one on my 04 automatic.

FairladyZ Sep 7, 2003 03:54 AM

No I am not saying its fake, but the picture looks weird. It may be the bright flash.

I like that a/t shifter. I still like the m/t one ALOT more, its looks, and feels great!

yanotkaj Sep 8, 2003 07:41 AM

I like the 2004 A/T shifter. Would there be anyway that you can change from the 2003 to the 2004 shifter?Any idea on how much it would cost?

N74DV Sep 9, 2003 09:20 PM

I sat in an '04 auto and felt the shifter.... it's quite a bit thinner and skinnier than the '03. It feels like a cheap POS in my opinion. I'm sticking with the '03 shifter.

Vlad Sep 10, 2003 11:50 AM

So the bigger the better? And Dodge Caravan shifter is the best?
:D

I'll change without thinking to the '04. Where we can buy it?

N74DV Sep 10, 2003 12:05 PM

where can you buy it?? umm..... I'm gonna go out on a limb here but.......probably Nissan

Subbacultcha Sep 10, 2003 12:31 PM

could somebody post a pic of an 03 shifter for comparison? i have a manual so I really have no clue what the fuss is about.

What I'll never understand is why all these manumatics have the shifting reversed from how it should intuitively be. What I mean is that the upshift should be a pull-back motion, since the car is squating with inertia. The down shift should be a push forward motion, since the body is thrown forward on braking anyway. Isn't that how the open wheel race car sequential shifters work?

average americans prolly wouldnt be able to comprehend "down" for upshift and "up" for downshift. it makes logical sense in terms of driving, but i can just picture lots and lots of people accidentally downshifting when they want to upshift and vice versa. if you look at any arcade racing game that uses a non-H shifter (meaning just up and down) its always ALWAYS towards you to upshift, and away to downshift.

I think it's quite possible to switch. One guy here on the forum installed buttons on the wheel and linked it to shifter mechanism. Just to switch switches will be much easier.

Also I wish I can get someday a nice aluminum brushed shift gate with *small* P,R,N,D + - itched in metal, instead of that ugly plastic with HUGE ugly letters so every grandma can see what she's doing.
