Just Couldn't Wait Anymore: Took My Z Out of Hibernation

Yesterday was a good day :) After driving my '94 Jeep Cherokee around since before Thanksgiving, I caved in and brought the Z out from hibernation. My area's 10 day forecast calls for temps in the high 40's and low 50's, so why not? The side of the garage she was parked in was blocked by my friend's boat, so I had to complete a 10-point turn to get her out of the other side. And once I got on the road, and started ripping through the gears (wiping the sleep out of her eyes ha), once again I fell in love with the 350Z. After driving the sloppy slush-box jeep, the Z felt as tight and precise as a scalpel, and so damn smooth! Today I plan to change the oil to the German Castrol, as a wake up gift. :icon38:

I love my car all over again :o

So if your Z is in hibernation, when do you plan on bringing her out?

My Z is and always will be my DD.Even driving my wifes new Chevy truck seems like I am driving a beater. The feeling you got driving it again is the same feeling I still get every day:thumbup:

wow thats really gay that you guys only get to drive your Z's for a couple of months out of the entire year..

Another reason why I despise the cold..

The only time I don't drive it up here is when it snows.

It's not a question as to what to do after you take it out of storage, it's what you did prior to storing it that matters.

i did an oilchange 3 weeks before it got stored... its in the garage so its clean as it was before. do i have to change all the fluids?

NISMO_558 Feb 22, 2009 09:18 AM

^ no, not necessary

Damn, i guess it sucks to live in areas where it snows or is icy. I couldn't imagine not driving my Z for that long.

KManZ Feb 22, 2009 11:29 AM

It isn't so much the cold and snow that prompts me to park the Z, it's the tons of salt used to de-ice the roads. And I don't want to change out to winter tires, so it's just easier to park the Z for a few months.

I just got back from changing the oil, so she's ready to go for the next few months. Since they recommend oil changes every 3 months or 7550 miles (whichever comes first), it's been more than 3 months, so I figured it'd be prudent to do so.

lol..

I didn't pay $30k to store this thing in a garage.. as much as I hate the humidity down here you guys make me feel so much better. Thank you.

We just had 4 inches of snow in the Chicagoland area Saturday and there's salt everywhere on the roads. Waiting for a good rainstorm in Early March, and my 350z would be out then.

Up in Cleveland it is still snowing. We get Lake effect snow up here and so far this year we had a couple times we got 12" of snow in one day. We almost broke the record for snow fall in January but the blizzard of 78 is still king. I had as much as 3 feet of snow in my front yard and had 6' tall snow drifts on the street corners. If you ever worked on a car from the rust belt you will know why you don't want to drive your pride and joy in the salt.

I usually wait until April after it warms up a bit and a couple good rain falls to get the salt off the roads.

yep our whole winter the lowest high for the day was about 20 degrees. but mostly around the 40's all winter. yep i like SC. but i still wish it didnt drop below 60. o and by the way its 55 outside now. :)

I had my Z out last weekend for the first time since storage a few months ago and it felt amazing. as the car was in stoage i had installed a motordyne spacer, the MREV2 and a custom intake. The Z was definately alot more peppy throughout the whole rpm range!!

Shes been a week now back in under the blankets, waiting on spring to arrive :)

If it looks like we are going to get a snow storm, the Z will go back to sleep. I hope there is no more snow!

My z is my only car so I have to drive it all year round, which makes me die a bit inside every time I drive through salt / cinders. But I feel like I am taking it out of hibernation the last week of every March (usually) when I take off my sloppy 17" winter tires and put on my 19" summer tires. One month and counting...

dennisafrompa Feb 23, 2009 07:20 AM

...you hibernate a car in Fairfax VA ???? Hard to believe. I live in SE PA and have never hibernated a sports car, including some Porsches. There are many driveable days during the winter, after all Faifax ain't Montreal.
