Car runs perfect ---> Ticking coming from Engine bay ----> New Engine Needed !!!!!!!
I AM BEYOND PISSED!!!
I have had my 350z since March...I broke it in properly....It currently has 3900 miles on it....I ride it in a multitude of different ways...sometimes I stretch her legs...sometime more conservative.....She was running beautifully for the longest time...then ever since about 2-3 weeks ago there was a ticking sound when the car was idle, or under low acceleration...
I brought it into the dealer to have that and a whole list of minor things fixed/replaced....I get a call from the dealer the next day saying that a new engine was ordered from Nissan and it would be about 12 days total for everything to arrive and be installed.
I am beyond flawed...I can not believe this...Yes many will say its great to get a new engine..but I'd rather have my original FACTORY INSTALLED one in there...
I dont have much faith in this being done by local mechanics at the dealership..
Any suggestions on what to look for?
P.S.
The dealership said it was due to an internal oil leak in the engine.. One whole cylinder was not functioning at all

Ask them what the ticking sound is. And take it to a different Nissan dealer and get a second opinion.
What does the ticking sound like? How loud is it?
Michael.

A new engine built at the factory or one torn apart by dealer mechanics looking for a sound they have no idea what it is!!!!
I'll take the new engine anyday. Dealers do not send their mechanics to school for 350Z overhaul!!!

A new engine could be a longblock that excludes intake plumbing and belt-driven accessories or a shortblock that excludes the heads, intaking plumbing, and belt-driven accessories.
The dealer mechanics will still have to tear down a portion of the motor.
Michael.

be very happy... have a couple problems with the new engine they put in and then you will be cruising in a new 2005 (figure it will take a year to have a couple more problems with it.)
