it really depends on your experiece. i owned a CTSV, and i swear the clutch pedal, from full engagement to full release, was 1/2 inch. so if you ask me the clutch is 'long'
it is sort of rough between first and second, but between other gears seems to be forgiving. my 2006 i have now has a softer clutch than my 2003 IMO |
There are 2 issues;
1) drive by wire gas pedal usually 5% press on pedal gets 15% rpm boost for startup Z is straight line linear; 5% gets 5% only, so there is tendency to not press enough when new. 2) heavyness of car if you're coming from 2000lb car, 3200 is significantly more; you'll need more rpm when trying to move out quickly in traffic. you can idle and let out clutch and move ok, but too slow for real world conditions; so just become aware how much to press to get up to 1000r and as starts to grab, increase to 1500 while letting out clutch to full contact and keep on pressing until 3000. if cold engine, might limit to 1500 for first 6 - 11 miles; use slow shift points as in manual. ( 8,16,25mph .. ) in general remember hi-torque realm is 2k - 4k, the 6 speed is set up to stay there when accelerating, but over time you can 1-3-5-6 or 2-4-6 when engine is hot, 11miles, and still move out ok. I would not consider grab point 'height' of pedal relevant as it's relative, you'll get used to whichever car you're driving. Also, some adjust pedal to a lower point, which can be done by turning a screw above and behind the clutch pedal; there are instrux and pics on this site. |

Do a search for engagement point, or lowering the engagement point. There is a thread explaining how to do it. Although, if you adjust it too much, the clutch wont catch. People have claimed to do this mod with no problems, others claim it helped fry their clutch. There is no proof that lowering the engagement point does not shorten clutch life, or cause extra wear on the synchros. Secondly, some people have had issues with the cruise control not turning on after making the adjustment (there is a switch to turn it off if the clutch is depressed). People were twisting the crap out of the cruise control switch wire. I'll have to admit, the M/T in this car is more touchy than most Ive driven, but you just have to get the hang of it. I still have rough shifts now and again. One of my favorite things to do is have a friend drive, and watch them try to shift :icon30:

clutch pedal catch is difficult to get right, clutch stop helps...

just never let off the gas pedal even when you shift i mean thats why we buy petrol and clutches for right?

Do your homework & search these threads out, dude, you'll find out the MTs on Zs are a bit clunky.
