Fun this weekend.. Well Sorta

My buddy and I installed an Injen CAI this weekend on my HR. Took us around 4 hours but got it complete Saturday around 5pm. Took it out on the back road by his shop and gave it some gas to feel the difference.

We drive back to his house and I noticed my tank is on E but decide to wing it to his place. Watched some TV for awhile and came back downstairs to head out for dinner to meet our girlfriends. As I walk up to the car, I'm looking down at the ground and I see this fluid coming from my car pouring down the lot .. it's the sweet green juice. I open the hatch and throw my wallet and keys in the car and close it (in complete disbelief)... I locked my keys in the car.

I drove back down to my house, got my spare keys.. got back up to my car, popped the hood and noticed a large gash on the radiator INSIDE the engine bay behind the passenger side fan. WTF?

It is at the dealership right now, getting checked out -- my service rep. said he is 95% sure they will cover it.. as long as no evidence (rock, etc) is found. BUT I took the fan shroud, coolant reservoir out to look for any evidence before I got it towed and couldn't find anything.

So, hopefully I get my car back with no cost in pocket.

Something good happens (intake) then right back it hits with a negative... Wow.

Also, I tried looking for an 08' HR aftermarket radiator and couldn't find any? Reason for this is because incase they call back and say it's not covered, I wanted to see what I can do it for myself.

That sucks man good luck to you.

UnitedBreaks 09-21-2009 10:25 AM

Thanks man..

Yeah, I was shocked. Suprisingly enough, a tech from a local AutoWay Toyota was taking his trash out at the time of me diagnosing the problem. He couldn't believe it either.

He basically said make sure you find any evidence because otherwise the mechanic is going to go right back to the service rep. and tell him to make the customer come out of pocket. He said it happens often at the toyota dealership where he works and when vehicles come in, all of the mechanics call it "The sweet smell of money"...

Good luck, bro. That really sucks, coming on a high from putting your new intake in and then immediately your radiator is gashed... any ideas on what did it?

UnitedBreaks 09-22-2009 06:07 AM

Yes but unfortunately life is always like that. You get high then you come down. Sometimes, it is faster or more significant than expected though. :(

I have no idea what did it. There is no damage to the radiator fans, so It had to be something lightweight and went in and came out after destruction.

I would like to know if there are aftermarket radiators as well. These OEM radiators are JUNK. If they do have aftermarket rad. for the HR, then I would highly suggest upgrading your cooling system as part of everyones mod lists.

BTW: Forgot to mention Hotshot350 hooked me up with these intakes at a great price, great guy!

ReelBigAndy 09-22-2009 07:46 AM

Did you leave a wrench or something in there? Maybe got caught by the fan or whipped by a belt into the radiator? Not judgin', just sayin'...

UnitedBreaks 09-22-2009 08:08 AM

Nothing was found in the engine bay. We didn't drop any tools (that we can recall) in there.

If we did, I would think there would be damage to the radiator fan considering it is cheap plastic.

Still boggles me.

I once saw an episode of MacGuyver where he needed to get a Jeep started to escape the bad guys, but it had bullet holes in the radiator. Well low and behold, you can plug the holes with eggs!!! Crack a few eggs into the radiator reservoir and the heat will fry the eggs, thus plugging the hole! Then it can hold water/coolant without a problem!

:werd:

Heh, next time I'll try that...

zettahertz 09-22-2009 11:02 AM

My name is UnitedBreaks on there, although I rarely go on. I think I'll start visiting it more often.

Yeah, they are covering it 100%. This is AutoWay Nissan of Clearwater. His name is John Thorne and I've been dealing with him for a few years. REALLY cool guy and will hook you up.

Also, I found this radiator listed on Agency Power's website. It says 07' but I am still skeptical.

Did it actually work or no? I knew they did an episode on MacGuyver but I didn't get to see anything past blowing a door lock open with 5 bullets worth of smokeless powder haha
