The Miata is a great, pure, sports car. One of the reasons that I selected the Z over some other cars was that it was a coupe. A convertible just wasn't practical enough for me here in the Pacific Northwest. That being said, if I was going go do with a rag top, I may have ended up with the S2K or a Miata. Both nice cars. As ms350z wrote, the biggest issue with the Miata is from insecure young guys.
Another car to look at if you just want a toy would be a 3rd gen RX7. If you look around you can occasionally find a stock RX that hasn't been abused. That is a very fun car.

Not necessarily. I love the old British roadsters, and the Miata follows that philosophy. S2k is a little more 'grown up' if you will. However, seeing what early (pre-'04) S2ks are going for, I'll put them on the list. If I get one, I want the earlier one with the 2.0l, not the 2.2. Kinda softened it (driven both).

Hell, I wasn't even looking to purchase when I first bought my Z. I was just out test driving cars for the hell of it one nice spring Saturday. I'll do this maybe once or twice a year, nice way to spend an afternoon. But as soon as I drove the Z, I knew it was the car for me. Same thing happened with my Integra before that. I like stumbling across cars. It's like a girlfriend. You never know when you're going to meet your next one.

said goodbye to mine last week. gave my daily to my sister who was in need of a car. with winter approaching it didn't make sense to beat the Z up driving it through the rain all season. plus, i do enjoy a little extra space.
replaced her with an S60R.
