350z trade-in questions
I'm pondering trading in my Z for sedan. I have a couple of mods that I put on not to long ago. (Black headlights, eyelids, speakers, wickedcas sub, amp, stereo + cubby 7" mod, and volks) I wanted to know out of those mods is it worth it to just strip it back to factory. Or trade it in as is? Do dealers account for aftermarket addons?

most mods will actually lose you money because many times they insinuate you abused the vehicle. DB is correct. Take that ish off and bring it in stock. You'll get raped less.

dont trade in ur Z... sell it. my old car which was estimated by dealer for $4600 when i sold it for $6300. i dont know why people like to trade in their car. anyways if anyone could explain this, please go for it. thanks

Take em off and sell em! I used to work for a dealer as a salesman, its in your best interest to just return it to stock and sell it or trade it in. You can at least make some of your investment back by parting it out. And if you don't, a shop tech will find his way to it and swap the parts for his personal gain instead! lol

Yeap! part it out. Dealer will give you nothing for the mods you have. I was looking into trading my 2008 Z and they wanted to give me $16000 for it so I told him to shove it and left the dealership. I have intakes, headers, exhaust, audio system hooked up, Volk Racing Rims and they still were trying to rape me. Not me!

There is one financial advantage in a trade-in, at least in my state, we don't pay sales tax on the new car for the value of the trade-in. If I trade my car in for $18,000, and sales tax is 10%, than I save $1,800. Can I sell it for $19,800 myself? Maybe, maybe not, plus the hassle of the sell.

I think in the old days they would have charged you to restore the car back to the way it is... but now they'll probably sell it as is. Like everyone is saying, don't expect to get a penny for your parts. I would sell the wheels and audio parts and call it a day!

They simply made you an offer that would still allow them to run a profitable business. If you don't like the price which dealers will offer on a trade in, then just don't trade it in. As you say, part it out and then sell it privately. Dealers are not out to rip you off, they are trying to run a business. They can't offer you in trade, what you can get for the car privately. Also, a car that has been modified carries a higher risk of being abused in their mind.

mmmm! ok, I got a grip... still feels like rape! When you are loosing $4000-$6000 in a trade just because you have modified the car is insane. Like I said, I left the dealership and decided to keep my car and make other adjustments to keep my baby. Im not trading or selling my baby.
Cosign I did a little research and it wasn't worth it. On top of that the KB value for the Z dropped

OP, yes, Sir. All MODs will hurt you during trade in. Think of it this way; if a dealer will have a hard time trying to sell your car to an old lady (yes, even Z's) because of how it looks (rims, body kits, exhaust), they will definitely pay attention to everything that you did.
