question about my 2006 350z

my gauge in my car says 6600 when I click on the button, and I know that the non-rev up motor has a 6600 while the rev-up has 7000 when ur suppose to shift. So does that mean mine is the non-rev up? mine is a 6spd enthusiast. and I know that the 2006 is suppose to be the rev-up motor that's why I'm confused.

It's probably the adjustable shift light you're talking about. Check out your owner's manual.

ksuberk54 08-01-2011 05:53 PM

it just says: "if the maximum engine speed is desired, set the figure at 6,600 rpm."

ksuberk54 08-01-2011 06:06 PM

I thought all 2006 models had the rev-up motor. I'm confused.

Deteria 08-01-2011 06:12 PM

I believe it's the 6MTs that had the RevUp motor.

Nick Mystic 08-01-2011 06:12 PM

Only the manual transmission Anniversary 2005 and 2006 models got the 300 HP rev-up engines. The automatic transmission models kept the 287 HP - non rev-up engines.

ksuberk54 08-01-2011 06:13 PM

I assume mine is the rev-up because its a 6spd 2006 which means it should have the rev-up. maybe someone before me changed the rpm on the gauge?

Here are some photos I just took. From what I understand, if the redline starts at 7,100 then it's the rev-up. If it starts at 6,600 it's non rev-up. Here are my photos. Mind you, its a 2006 6spd. Maybe this will help if people see these photos they can let me know for sure if it's rev-up or not.

You can change when the light activates. Is 6600 the highest it goes? I believe you press the lower button on the right of the cluster to change it.

ksuberk54 08-01-2011 06:51 PM

I just changed it to 7000 rpm by pushing that lower button. It must have been set too low or something. I was just confused because I assumed it was suppose to read 7000 because it's a 2006, but when it read 6600 I was a little worried.

Redline is 7,000 RPM. This is a revup motor.

drivessidewayz 08-01-2011 07:21 PM

On the revups the shift light defaults to 6.6k for whatever reason. The shift light is more for show than anything else...it's in a horrible spot for actual use and has nothing whatsoever to do with your actual redline; I wouldn't worry about it that much.

I appreciate all the help guys! One of the main reasons I got a 2006 model was because it had the rev-up engine, I was a little worried for a bit but now I understand. Thanks again.

Well you got 7,000 RPM so use all 7,000 RPM. It will not explode.

haha will do. Still trying to get used to driving the manual. Never owned one before. It's fun, but nerve racking at the beginning. Give me a few weeks and I'll be flying.

Don't worry too much. I hug my rev limiter almost every weekend :D

But it will consume oil ;) j/k

bencurtis 08-02-2011 04:27 PM

Yeah, i don't use the shift light, I use my shockwave exhaust to tell me when to shift.

dmroberson 08-02-2011 04:49 PM

The shift light defaults to 6.6K because that is where the revup makes max hp. your redline is still 7K.

I don't even pay attention to mine.

Nick Mystic 08-04-2011 07:15 AM

I think if you read your owners manual you'll see that if you set the rpm shift setting that you've been talking about at the maximum setting it will turn off the blinking light on the dash. I have my rpm signal light set at 6000 rpms more or less as a safety warning so I would see it blinking if I got the engine revving that high. I pretty much drive my Z like a normal car, so I'm not looking to shift at the engine's red line.
