Default To sell or not to sell?

Well, the Z has been parked for about a year now and I think I may have put only a handful of miles on it. Since I do not drive it, I'm thinking I should sell it. I have another vehicle that is my daily driver so transportation is not a issue. It's been paid off for several years now so it's not like selling it is going to save alot of money. The additional money from the sale would be nice but, I don't really need it right now. I love the car but, it's just setting in the garage collecting dust.

Thoughts?

If you love the car, can you tell us why you aren't driving it?

Is there anything in particular wrong with it?

Do you have so much invested in it that you'd feel guilty selling it for a loss?

Do you foresee much chance of wanting to drive it again in a reasonable period of time?

Things like that tend to become anchors which keep you from moving on to something else that would be more enjoyable and fulfilling. You'll probably be able to find a car close enough to the Z to replace it, if you find you're terribly sorry you sold it.

I'd say it's probably time to let someone else enjoy it, and use the money to fund a start in some other pursuit.

Not sure why I am not driving it. I have had it since 2002 so maybe I'm just getting tired of it. I used to like to get out on the weekends and just drive but I haven't done that in years. My daily has alot more room hauling and it has my bike rack on it so, I go straight for it. I can definitely see it being an anchor. I should probably sell it while it still has value in it. It's a 2003 with only 44K on the odo.

Yeah, I feel guilty every night when I come home and there she sets. Almost asking me "Tonight? Can you take me out tonight?"

If my car was turbo'd and had those wheels on it, I don't think I would be able to stop driving it! Give her a good washing, tune up, and get out there!!!

Take her out and run her down one night with no radio on and cell phone on silent. Remember why you built her up while driving, then sit with a cold beer and enjoy the view from home or on a bar porch. This is when you decide if thats the last night you enjoy the sight or if you should do it more often.

That is exactly what I did with my M, helps make the decision every time.

I'm in the same boat you're in. I'm on the fence about trading it in for something more practical or just selling it. I put on only 100 miles last year and the battery just died. Paying insurance and costly CA registration seems pointless right now.

Well, now I don't feel too bad about not putting many miles on my Z.

BUT, I do drive it almost every morning at 5AM to the local HS stadium for my daily workout, and the trip winds through several vacant parking lots on a local college campus. It's a great way to get the heart rate up before exercising.

That and the weekend jaunts through the countryside make owning the Z worthwhile.

Maybe you should try something that puts you in the car for a little while each day, too.
