Any love for the older Z's?
I own a 2008 NISMO, but lately I've been looking backward. I've been trying to find a 240 or 70's vintage 280 to do a resto-mod on. I'm leaning toward the 280 because I'd feel bad modding a good 240z since they are pretty rare and I'm not interested in bringing a rust bucket back from the dead.

My uncle just bought a 280z from Oklahoma, it's in pretty good shape! I can't wait till he brings it home to the shop and we can start restoring it, I'll post pics as soon as it arrives. I wanna paint it Redline red like my 06Z haha.

Having owned an original 240Z(Datsun),If I was to find&restore a "older"Z,the 240
would be the one.Unfortunately,Datsun/Nissan was quilty of the mistake that many car manufacturers make, tweaking the original, adding weight and tacked on styling parts to the original. The 240Z was a beautiful design.Well proportioned from all angles.A completely restored 240..all stock is really beautiful. The car did have its negatives. Cheap materials used in the interior.Poor A/C and weak electrical components. But,the 240Z overall was a classic. |
I have a co-worker doing a engine swap on a '83 280ZX...

I have had a 72 and 73' 240Z, and absolutely loved them. Both had 2.8L swaps with 5-speeds. But once you go Z32, you never go back! :)

I had an 87 Turbo..man I loved that thing!
|
Had a 90 Z32 NA. The car was awesome. Sometimes I wish I would've kept it, but I'm very happy with my Z33.
|
I still have and love my '91 Aztec Red 300ZX 2+2 and it still turns as many heads as my 350 ('06 Magnetic Black Pearl Touring Coupe). The two look incredible together (see my gallery).
It amazes me that to this day the Z32 body design can stand with just about any new car style and look like it is a current model. I think it was years ahead of it's time. I don't think it will ever look "old". |
Anyone that's had their Z for a long time, probably (should) knows about the lineage of our later model Z33/34's and appreciate where ours ones came from. Still love the old 240, 260 & 280z. Or if you really want to hark back to where Fairlady badge came from with the little mid 60's Fairlady Roadster. Very cool.
Cool part of the Z clubs over this end of the world, when we have a Z meet, you'll get anything from the little Fairlady Roadster, 240z - 370z. |
