Default Mom researching daughters 1st car??

Yes, this is another "looking to buy" thread but slightly different, so bear with me. I am looking into buying a 350z for my soon to be driving daughter.
2003-2005, under $12k, and most likely automatic. Yes, I know how to use the "search" button, but I am mainly looking for opinions if this would be suitable for a kid just starting off. I myself have never driven a Z so I don't know what to expect! Also some links to any buying info (what to look for, problem areas, etc.) would be great! We are a car crazy family into the sports cars and don't really wanna settle for the way too common Mustang (sorry Mustang ppl)
TIA
Crazy Mom(?)

If i we're you i would look into an G35 coupe instead for a high school girl.
If you insist on a z (same car just a little more comfortable)

NO!!!! do not buy a teen girl a 350. Not because it is a super fast car, expensive. I wouldn't buy this car for her just because it is a car that has significant power with rear-wheel drive, this is important for rain or anger purposes. If its raining the car has enough power to lose control while turning, and if she is mad (which teenagers tend to be) peeling out and speeding off is a recipe for disaster.

there are problems with these cares that are very hard to determine unless driving for a few weeks as in oil consumption, transmissions, and window motors.

287 hp V6 powered rear wheel drive car is an excellent choice for a first time teenager learning to drive.

Not a good first car for a teenage girl or boy for that matter to have.

Just make sure the roads are wet or have ice on them, there in BFE, when you teach her to drive it.

It would be a horrible car to put your daughter in for a first car. Besides, most teenagers beat the hell out of their first car.

Get her a fwd car.

Get her a full sized van like from The A-Team or Who's The Boss. Throw a used mattress in the back and call it a day.

I don't know about the mattress. Before you know it she is a grandma.

1st car, no way. She needs some driving experience first. This is coming from a young driver.

knowing that i was a bad driver and beat the **** out of my first car i would never give my kid a nice car let alone moderately powerful rwd platform for their first car.

Guess I need to drive a few just to see what all the fuss is about
and i agree 100% that a higher hp car isn't the best choice for young and inexperienced drivers,(she won't be driving my Vette by herself until she's 30 LOL) I also know that teens will push the limits of ANY vehicle and try to show off (girls less likely than boys) but then again, don't we all do that when we get a new toy? But I am going to test drive one myself just to see how they handle.
Oh, here's a little background on WHY I would even consider such a car: a few years ago, I told her if she kept her grades up, I would get her the car of her choosing (within budget) she is a straight A student, involved in alot of school activities and generally a good kid. So I feel I need to keep my end of the deal. Wished my parents made me a deal like that!

If you do get her a Z, steer away from a base model, traction control will be her friend in the rain, which the base model does not have.
