Default Window Motor

If I press the window up button for the window and it goes up then a quarter way down, does it mean the motor needs to be replaced or can it be fixed with a reset?

Two scenarios...

Most likely: needs a reset. Both this site and YouTube have walk throughs on how to do this.

Possible: the motor is struggling to overcome resistance on the way up. When this happens, the motor thinks it has hit an object, and rolls back to prevent damage to motor/window. In this case, the motor is usually worn, and heading towards replacement.

Your scenario sounds like the former, just going by loose description.

geomark... I have had the same situation. The previous recommendation is spot on. That being said, a reset will last maybe 2 weeks then it reverts back to rolling back down. That is good to hold you until you get a new one. But yes there are tutorials on resetting it. I have used the one on YouTube. Good luck man

A reset should help but I think it's more the switch than the motor. It's happening to me right now so I know what you're going through.

I would say definitely try a reset first, but the same thing happened to me and I replaced the motor and it works perfectly fine now.
