I lurked this forum in 06 then after a deployment I found myself walking through dealerships of bremerton tryna figure which way to go...

for the things I wanted to do and the way I wanted to do them...the Z won

didn't even test drive it

When I was 12 I found a poster at my school bookfair of an orange 350z. I thought it was the coolest car I had ever seen and dreamed of owning one. Well, 11 years later, I found the poster dusty in a closet and told myself, screw it, i'm buying one and not letting anything stop me. And now I am in love.

Nismo350z#0310 12-30-2013 08:42 AM

No it wasn't.

My dream car was a Twin Turbo Saleen S7.

I dreamz big though.

DaBaus 12-30-2013 09:36 AM

im 22 now. Nevver in my life ever I would have thought I could own such a nice car as this 350z.

Growing up...My dream car was always the Nissan Skyline R34, Honda S2000, and Subaru WRX STI (04-05) I would read forums and search autotrader for hours just looking at different ones for sale and reading about modded ones.

My father owned an Acura NSX for 4 years and I thought that it was the BEST car in the world. Now he drives a 2008 BMW M5 E60 and that car is super fun to drive.

After I drove my Z and enjoyed the torque curve and the amount of power delivered once you pressed the gas pedal in the right gear. It truly grew on me. Coming out of a 1993 Lexus SC300 with a 1jz-gte swap I realized the importance of balance over power. Handling of the Z is phenomenal.

Also I really enjoy how close knit the Zenthusiasts are in this world...Especially during ZdayZ or any big National get togethers.

RedUzziJDM 12-30-2013 09:41 AM

lol Don't get me wrong but my 350z is just a toy, something I could play with and beat up.

My dearm car would be a super car, I have so many lol.

Z33Garage 12-30-2013 10:03 AM

I always liked them, especially since I love the rear end of the MK4. The Z has a nice fat A55. Personally its not my "DRRREEEAMMMMMM" car, but if this is as close as I ever get, I would be ok with it. I make the most of what I have, and I cant complain at all with my Z. : /

e30cabrio 12-30-2013 10:41 AM

The Z was never my dream car, it became my nightmare.

Why and how? Unless you tried modifying it I can see it becoming a nightmare with a growing money pit and it's lowered unreliability when it's modified. Other than that these cars are designed to last up to 200,000 miles (that's what Nissan claims and it's apparently true with the amount of Z's I came across with 210k miles, 260k etc).

ADMAN 12-30-2013 11:41 AM

+1 on the "Nope. Not even close." But, it's all perspective - age vs. cars, etc. :dunno:

I so wanted a 300ZX-TT back in the day. And, a Supra. And, a Lotus Esprit Turbo. And, then a Chrysler Conquest TSi. None of which I could afford at the time. The Conquest was finally obtainable price wise - but, I couldn't afford the insurance being under 25 years old.

Now, I could buy any one of them, but don't. Heck, a Chevy Malibu has more power and better handling characteristics nowadays.

Nonetheless, I'm glad I got my 350Z when I did. Still a fun track car.

oooohhhh that explains it. I made sure I steered clear of the revup even though people said it was a rare problem. It's unfortunate for the revup owners that got that problem. At least it's not as bad as the DSM eclipse/talon people with the 7 bolt 4G63 engines doing the crankwalk dance. Those poor bastards would never see it coming until it's too late. Same goes for anyone with a 2000+V6 Honda/Acura with an automatic transmission.

e30cabrio 12-30-2013 01:07 PM

I bought it at a premium from a sh!tty Nissan dealer because it had a "new" engine. That one failed at 18k, I had been taking it for "tests" which they f00ked up for over 2k miles and they said oops outside the laughable 12month 12k warranty (due mostly to their "mistakes")

Nissan NA told me to eat sh!t, I'll never buy another Nissan

I then to avoid ever having a motor problem again spent way too much building a "bulletproof" NA stroker which ate it's self within 6k. Either due to a poor build by the machine shop or bad tune, I lean to build because the guy that bought the motor said his builder said the crank was not properly set up as well as the cams, detonation was the cause of failure.

I had an 01 CLS. No issues with the trans although I did have a problem with a 98 V6 CL which failed at 32k after telling Acura about it for 2 years (documented) I won in small claims court & got the money I paid to rebuild it back, it then ran fine for 100k+ until it was totaled.

Jah70 12-30-2013 04:15 PM

Dealerships can be real pricks. What's everyone's current dream cars? Mine are the Aston Martin One 77, Aston Martin DBS, Porsche 911 turbo, Mclaren MP412-C, La Ferrari, Audi V10 R8, Lexus LFA, SRT Viper, Koninsegg Agera R, Ferrari 458 Italia, Ferrari 599 and a Lamborghni Huracan.

Realistic Dream Car: used Audi R8 or Ferrari 360
Reachable Dream Car: Ferrari 458 Italia (in about 10 years)
If I win the Lottery Car: Pagani Zonda Cinque (sexiest car ever built and the car I lust over)

oldschool350z 12-30-2013 06:20 PM

YEah it was my "dream car", however now that I have it. It's lost it's luster. Trade in value is so minimal I will keep it until the wheels fall off.

Castor771 12-30-2013 06:37 PM

Coming from an Infiniti G37 sedan and Altima coupe, the 350Z was a true sports coupe with good looks and handling that's within our budget. We looked at total cost of ownership. Gas, insurance and maintenance costs. The 350Z fits that bill very nicely.

As for dream car, the Nissan GT-R would be very nice but insurance and maintenance costs alone are beyond our budget.

I like the Pagani's like the Zonda and the Hurray (hehe) but to be honest they don't look very good. The Aston Martin One77 is probably a car I would drown a bag of cute fluffy bunnies for or push an old lady down the stairs for.

That's one odd way to achieve a dream car..

CJM 12-30-2013 07:24 PM

^^^^That's what I was thinking!!

And personally, I don't think there is a car as sexy as the Cinque. I've always been a fan of that track car style shape. The One Seven Seven is a very beautiful and stunning car, but it is a different genre of car if you know what I mean. I have never been a huge fan of that elegant shape of AM's, but I still can appreciate their beauty!

Waiz 12-30-2013 07:27 PM

My Z was an incentive for me to work hard in my early 20's, back then it was worth alot more than it is now

No way in hell would I qualify it as my dream car, it's way too affordable

jdmlove1 12-30-2013 08:23 PM

Not my dream car, i felt in love with the supra once i saw one in 1993, then i felt in love with the r34.. couldnt buy the supra coz i know i would throw all my money on modifying it.. couldnt get r34 either coz its only RHD. then i bought an AT 2006 z in 2010 then sold it and bought 2007 MT.

i dream of keeping the Z and take other cars (Collection) Supra, Silvia, RX7, NSX, MR2 (will get mr2 even if get married) .. am single now.. but i know eventually instead of this imaginary collection i will get married and have kids.

only people saying it was their dream car are people who were hashing out puberty while beating off to Tokyo Drift circa 2006

DaBaus 12-31-2013 01:06 PM

^^^^ im part of that criteria.

DaBaus 12-31-2013 01:07 PM

Except at the time. I was highly involved in a group of friends racing in a game called Initial D.

350zHalleck 12-31-2013 02:09 PM

Not even close. It's a fun car to drive all the time. I don't worry about rain or snow or rust or really anything and that's why I got it. Don't need back seats and it's cheap to mod and maintain.

I think I made that rather clear in my first post. Obviously at 13 I knew nothing of cars and figured this car costs an arm and a leg. I love the Z but it isn't dream car material anymore

I saw my first 350Z in a Home Depot parking lot in 2004. I just kept walking around the Z thinking “This is pretty cool.” Later I discovered the price and was amazed that I could afford one. So I bought a new one. I was 55 at the time. Cool is still cool wether you are old or young.

sportyaccordy 01-01-2014 10:21 AM

No way. I wanted a fast GT and had $10K to spend. I like my Z but if I had $30K to spend, for example, I would have got a Cayman S or a mint E46 M3. Z is a good car though. Fast, cheap, easy to mod, somewhat comfy over long drives and luxurious. Can't complain.

RacingBlack350Z 01-01-2014 01:54 PM

In love with all the Z's, but the dream car for me is a Porsche Carrera GT3 RS

New sig for me

Well I didn't build the Z myself, Nissan did. I just modded it with some off the shelf and some handmade parts to maximize the car I own.

Trance4c 01-02-2014 04:13 AM

Initially the 350z was not a car I was highly interested in, I liked the drive train but for some reason the rear of the car just never did it for me. The size was right and overall shape was appealing but the original DE just wouldn't push me to buy one.

Then circa 2007 I saw a red Nismo at a car get together a few hours south. At the time I was still in my orange 3s-gte swap Celica with over 200,000+ miles and shell coming from the junkyard; there were certain short comings which would bring my coupling with the Celica to an end.

The Nismo was a great looking car and had a lot of updates I liked, especially the brake system. I'm an enthusiast autocrosser and track day participant. Those that know me are aware I'm in it just for the fun, but a car with a more proper weight balance with updates from the factory in the right places for a great price was hard to beat.

Why did the Nismo become my dream car? The reinforced shell, the relatively cheap price and the parts supply available. Many people dream of supercars, but none of those really provide me anything additional to what I could get from the Nismo. My reasons are probably different than most, but after all the years of working on cars, building and running them my experience has shaped a different view.

donj 01-02-2014 08:05 AM

Nope

My dreams car an r8 lol

Deteria 01-02-2014 12:58 PM

I'd say the 350z is an "obtainable dream car" for teens growing up and being able to work for and obtaining one while they are still "young". It was my dream car since high school when it 1st came out. But now years later after graduating from college, I managed to achieve my realistic goal. Now on to my next obtainable dream car, a 2014 Porsche Cayman S :)

HAWAI'I 01-03-2014 08:26 AM

not at all... my dream car is a Ferrari 250 GTO, MB 300SL GW, or an Aston DB5, Pick One

JDMFairladyZ33 01-03-2014 12:17 PM

There are dream exotic cars and there dream regular sports cars that are obtainable. The 350z would fall in the latter. To me the 350z was an 'I'll settle for it since I missed all the awesome Japanese super cars in the 90s" car. It was the first new production sports car that Nissan, Toyota, Honda, & Mazda had released that I like. Back in 2003/2004 my choices were the S2000, RX8, or Z. The Z was the only car that fit me comfortably. However after 4 years of ownership I was very disappointed in it for various reasons. My dream obtainable car is a 93-98 Toyota Supra original 6spd TT. Now I am living the dream.

MrRon 01-03-2014 01:12 PM

I always wanted one after I saw tokyo drift but i never knew the name of it, until like 4 years ago...and now I have one.

But it was never my dream car, it was just one of the cars I was going to get. My dream car is a Ferrari 458.
