wheelchair in a 350Z?
 

hey all,
I was wondering if anybody has ever fit a wheelchair in the back of their Z. I have this nerve problem with my legs and am using a cane now. It is supposed to get worse and I want to keep my Z.
I'm thinking a sport type chair that folds but I'm not sure if it will fit under the arch in the back of the Z.

You might be able to make it work if you get some quick release wheels on the wheelchair. Why don't you go to a medical supply company that sells wheelchairs and see if they will let you test fit a wheelchair? I'll bet they would be more than happy to help you.

I was able to fit my father's small one without large wheels. But it was a pain to get in because of the rear strut bar.

It was a one or two time thing, I can't imagine doing it everyday

pm lightninguy on here. He went to a mountain run years ago and i remember his passenger having a wheelchair.

Now he also gutted a lot of his car for track adventures.

I don't know if this is an option, but removing the passenger seat would probably be an easier way to move around the chair. Do you often have a passenger? Maybe that could be a last resort kind of thing.

If you have the wheelchair with the wheels you use to move its not going to fit in the trunk. The opening is way to small sadly.

I find it amusing how there is a diagram of how to fit two golf bags. I've never went golfing in my life. It's for the rich people.

you can be like me and jsut remove most of the "junk" in the trunk and lay carpet down. without a spare and the mat that covers it theres much more room for storage.

Without a doubt I believe you will be able to fit the wheel chair in the car. Whether it be in the trunk or front seat is the next question. I recommend going to a place where you can get your hands on the exact model chair you're looking for and ask to see if it will fit in your car. (They should not give you a problem what so ever. Fit it. Try every angle possible. Consider taking out the spare along with removing rugs and covers. If all is loss. Try the front seat. I don't believe that taking out the passenger seat would be an ideal thing to do just because it's your baby. I sure as hell wouldn't want a one seater car. Have you considered creating some type of mount that can clamp on over the strut brace in the rear and can rest on the brace and continue into the front of the car. That's where I believe you will have enough clearence. I hope the best for you and I am happy to see your not letting anything stop you from losing your Z!

After years of helping my mother go to appointments, I can say that a standard wheelchair will not fit in the rear storage area. Even with the spare tire and cover removed, it's impossible to fit under the rear support. But where there's a will, there's a way! Keep the Z!

Only way to find out is actually Putting one in there. Not all wheelchairs are the same but keep in mind our cars were built to fit two golf bags. Get a wheelchair and try to fit it in.

I remember a couple of years ago over here in NZ seeing a man get out of the drivers side a 350, with help from his passenger made way to the back to get his wheelchair. I can't remember what size the chair was though, and wasn't close enough to see if the car has any modifications to make this easier.

You might want to try a place like REI and talk with an associate about getting a roof rack that fits a 350z for your chair. You could probably get a Yakima or Thule rack you can strap your chair to. Here's a thread from last year re: roof racks.

Google "quick release axle wheelchair"
I'm not sure if they fit, but they would likely get you closer than traditional chairs.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will go try one out. Also, taking the spare and all that was a great idea. That will free up a lot of room.

This is seriously weird but I fully remember posting on this thread..... maybe the mods removed the post cus it had a link in it.

Either way, since I can't show you, google "Skier R8". I think that set up would look decent on a 350z. Good luck (y)

what about an eternal rack like a bike rack, that will work on the Z so you leave it on the outside, get a cover for it is it is raining, etc..
