Default 2006 Z Worth Modding? - Potential Oil Consumption Issues

hey guys. i own a 2006 Z with 50k miles on it. this is my second car, and i put about less than 1k miles per year. i suspect that my car has the infamous oil burner from all the threads ive been reading. i do have a 6 speed. now i need to make a decision, because i want to start modifying this car (exhaust, springs, plenum spacers, and possibly a turbo in the future).

should i keep this car and modify it? or sell this car and buy another Z and start all over? maybe 07-08, but going to end up spend more money. its actually hard to find a clean black 07-08 Z in my area.

i really do want to keep this car, and i just was wondering if other 2006 owners have modified their Z, without any problems. thanks for your help guys.

I'm sure people who own 06 z's have been successful modifying their car. If you only drive it 1k miles a year than even if it does burn oil, it's not gonna matter with such little driving. I don't see the need to drop the money on a HR since you don't drive the z much. There is so much information on what your concerned with that has already been covered at some point on this forum. Use the search function and you will have alot of information to go through. Hopefully some 06 revup owners chime in and offer some advice though.

06 will be cheaper to modify than an HR, but than an 03-05 will be even cheaper to modify. Find a car already turboed by a reliable tuner. I have an 06 that has been supercharged for over 10k miles no engine problems. However, injectors failed and supercharger needed a rebuild. Just go NA.

I have an 06 pretty modified, I have no issues. I have an auto though so I don't think I'll have the oil issue.

You won't have the oil problems because yours is a auto. Oil problems were for mt only.

To answer your problem I would keep it since you don't drive the car much.

Dang, that sucks man. My 06' MT is my second car as well, but the guy I bought it from got Nissan to completely replace the engine at 24,000 miles so now it doesn't burn any. I know a few people withe the 06' MT and most don't burn too much oil, you just have to check the dipstick once and a while when you get gas and you'll be fine.

I could've been wrong lol. But yea I thought it was more an auto issue. But guess not. But definitely a rev up issue. Or at least more common on those engines

ive got an 06 with no oil problems. there is a good chance your engine is fine. i would just keep your 06. by the time you sold your car and bought an 07-08, you could have blown up an engine AND swapped parts over to another used vq engine if needed. vq's go for 1-2k and will drop right in.

considering 06 autos didnt get the revup, and the revups are the engines known to have oil consumption probs... thats not true lol

Ok i'll be serious and answer your question. I have a 2006 w/6spd and I've added some bolt-ons and done some tinkering with it. I have never had a problem with my Z burning any oil. If you can financially, I would honestly sell your '06 and find a low milage HR. I tried to get an HR when I was in the market for a Z but they just weren't in my area, all the HR's in my area were autos and I wasn't having any of that.

If you think you can't find a low milage HR then just keep the '06 and start to mod it. Although I strongly prefer the HR engine over the DE revup. I'm going to drop a LS3 and T56 tranny in my Z next year so that's why I haven't sold mine and bought a HR. Plus I really love the color combo on my Z. Silver Alloy with OEM Burnt Leather seats.

Yes people modify cars. Very clear statement. I have a modified 2003 350Z Track Model. It has a Vortech S/C with no issues. When and if you modify your Z have a good shop do it if your not real tech savy, so that you be sure to get the other add ons needed for a good safe set up. I don't know NJ, as I'm northern California and we have excellent shops here. I am a "ZONC" Z/C owners of Northern California Rep." here and we have an excellent shop "ZCargarage", which you could visit on the internet. Rob would answer any questions you have. Expert in Z's G's GTR's and more.

With all due respect, I encourage you to swallow your words. Because you jumped on someone without understanding the situation. He wasn't speaking to OP, he was speaking to the guy who said he had a modified 5at.

So HA!
