Pick up the valentine 1 with savvy attachment. The savvy plugs into the OBD2 port to read vehicle speed and to gain access to power. This will turn on and off your radar detector with a slight delay so it does not abruptly cut power and also mutes your radar under a set speed. I have my valentine set to mute below 20mph. when I am in shopping malls or driving slow around grocery stores. The radar only lights up but does not produce any audible alerts until you pass 20 mph.

I have gotten so used to knowing what direction the signal is and more importantly knowing when I've gone past it so my foot can go back down. For other people who drive mostly in town where stores and false alarms are prevalent the GPS is a godsend.

It really comes down to what features give you the best chance at avoiding a ticket.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of your choices.

+1 to what this guy said (least bias, imo). Others also have valid points. FWIW, I like my V1 and don't care for increased sensitivity or GPS of its competitors.

Default I'm in for the V1 but both are good..

I run with the V1. As has been mentioned it has to be mounted high up in order for the 360 degree field of operation to work properly as I've seen some people mount their (you name the brand) RD just about anywhere and not take this into consideration.

Another good point about the V1 is, if I'm not mistaken, you can send it in for "updates" periodically as "newer versions" of "radar" hit the market instead of having to buy a whole new RD. Of course you have to pick up the bill for the "update"..

$350 ticket not worth the v1.
This kind of talk ranks up there with the cops saying "You know, radar detectors don't work?"

If you get hit with laser, 99 times out of 100 - its too late no matter what detector you use. Unless you drive with a tilted mirror on the front bumper.

I can't tell you how many tickets my escort saved me from. The tickets I did manage to get were either because I forgot to turn the detector on or because I had the music up too loud and didn't notice the beeping. Both reasons are pure failure on my end but I've learned.

Where I am K only comes off school buses (wtf?) and X is off every building with an automatic door or security system. Ka is what everyone uses and I've seen laser a few times.
