Racing Steering wheel bad idea?
So I just got my 2006 350z, and one thing I noticed was the steering wheel didn't feel too good. Almost like its too big. I was considering getting a racing wheel. But then no airbags...shoule I do it?
Any suggestions?

Is swag worth your life? The Z wheel is one other better OEM wheels I have felt.

Racing wheels belong in race cars. If you add a cage, a real SFI rated fixed back racing seat and drive with a helmet you should definitely have a race wheel if not....

I love the OEM wheel. Small and thick enough to feel performance oriented but still comfortable enough for daily driving.
It also pairs perfectly with the weight of the rack. A little heavy in parking lots, then loads up perfect once you start hooning.
So many cars struggle to get this combination right and they nailed it with the 350z.
The potential loss of the most important safety feature (on a daily) for the reduction of a few cm's in wheel diameter seems like backwards thinking to me.
Just my .02

Well, it's not going to hurt anything by changing it out - aside from the fact that you have no air bag in case of frontal collision - but ergonomically, I personally don't see any point. The Z has one of the better OEM steering wheels out there and that's coming from a long line of aftermarket wheels (all Momo) that I've run.
Sizewise, a smaller diameter will marginally improve turn-in but the stock wheel works well for me but if you prefer the thinner grip of the FRS wheel, then seek one out similarly sized.
In the end, if after driving it for a few weeks, you still don't like it, then have at the Momo catalog (or whatever).

I have two Z's, both with NRG steering wheels, short hubs and quick release. I've had this set up for many years, I love it. Hate the OEM wheel. I say do it, you'll love it.

do it. with the advancements in medicine and EMS response time's there 's no real reason why you should worry about a accident. plus with obama care your hosptial stay is definatly covered.
also make sure you are a organ donor. i am in need of a liver in a few years.

Here's a consideration Momo made a racing wheel that came out for the Maxima with a airbag that you can swap out with the Z and still have a airbag it's a little expensive but it may be a option you can look at,just do a google search for Momo Nissan Maxima steering wheel GL!!

To be clear if it's made to accept an airbag it's a race style wheel not a race wheel. Just like these adjustable vinyl wrapped race style seats that are not actual race seats.
